Thoughts on “unteaching that ‘fiction is fake’”?

On one hand, I agree that you can stop and think about real life circumstances or ideas while reading/watching fiction but I would not try to blur the line between fiction and nonfiction, especially with how prevalent (or vocal) it seems like it’s become for people to treat characters as projections of themselves or like they’re real people that you can be “mean” to or “harm”.

And just to clarify, I blacked out the user’s name because I disagree with the things I said in this post but I dunno this individual at all, I dunno how they are actually presenting these ideas to students, and nothing I’m saying has anything to do with them, personally.

If anyone wants to find the tweet and give it a like or comment their thoughts on it, this won’t stop them and I’m not trying to. Do what you want and as long as you are making ad hominem attacks on the user, anyone who disagrees with this stance, etc., I think interacting is fine and well. Just don’t want this post to be associated with the specific account that posted it.

“Game is dying hurr durr 🤡” MIGHT I REMIND YOU THAT SPIDER-MAN IS OUT?!

Chuds are trying to have a laugh at the player count yet the game still has thousands of players!!! And may I remind you that a new Spider-Man movie just released?!

Of course the player count is going to go down when everyone is outside mowing the lawn, going to work, too tired from the summer heat to blast on Marathon, AND seeing the new Spider-Man movie! CONTEXT MATTERS!!!

I’m still having a mutha fuckin’ blast, dammit!

Shout out to my Queen (King), the greatest film of all time, The Woman King!

If Nolan had actually locked in then maybe The Odyssey could’ve reached the same heights as The Woman King.

For comparison:

The Odyssey has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s objectively better than The Fellowship of the Ring (95%), but it pales next to the GOAT herself, The Woman King, at 99%!

The Odyssey has a cinema score of A but again Nolan couldn’t reach that same level of quality as The Woman King that got an A+! The highest cinema score that ANY film can achieve!

Nolan bros just don’t understand how aggregates work. The aggregates have spoken and The Odyssey just wasn’t able to hit those same heights as The Woman King, the movie everyone universally lauds as one of the greatest ever made.

Why did The Odyssey score lower than The Woman King?

Day one, The Odyssey had 97% of its “verified users” give it at least a 6 out of 10, which is fine, but it is still lagging behind cinematic masterpieces like The Woman King, which had 99% of its “verified users” give it at least a 6 out of 10! What do you guys think Nolan could’ve done differently to get as many 6s as some of the greats, such as (checks notes) The Woman King?

Did Nolan not stray far enough from the source material or not include enough female fighters? Where did Nolan go wrong?

Gail Simone's Supergirl review

For those who don't know, Gail is a long-time writer who's worked on Wonder Woman, Bat Girl, The Flash, and JLA among many, many other titles for both DC and Marvel.

She's extremely knowledgeable about the source material and also a generally fun follow on BlueSky.

Personally, I haven't gotten to see the movie yet, but I'm willing to take Gail's word on this one.

Serious Question about the Future of Marathon

I know the Baconator would orbital strike this post down, the second I his “post” on the actual sub for the game, but I was genuinely wondering if anyone think there is a chance for this game to be sold and run by some other dev team or company?

I don’t play the game. I first got interested because of the fall off and cope. These days, I mainly just troll the angry blast havers that get baited over here every day but I really don’t hate the game.

I’ve consistently said apathy is what has been killing this game from the start. Bad PR around ending support of D2 has ramped things up but apathy is the biggest hurdle this game has faced, since the start.

All that said, it would be cool to see this game make a comeback. If it doesn’t then whatever, it can go down in history as another live service blunder subsumed into the Concordian Timeline but I’m honestly curious if anyone knows whether or not there’s a chance of another company buying and supporting this game on a fraction of the cost? Similarly to Masters of the Universe, the unrealistic budget is the biggest problem for this game (coupled with apathy/not enough interest).

Does anyone know any examples of this ever happening or know more about Bungie or Sony to have a discussion about this idea? This is sort of a “shower thought” type of post but really I’m curious if anyone has any thoughts about this!

Marathon will never be for the casual gamer

When someone who’s just getting into the game is constantly getting killed before they even know what’s happening, it’s a recipe for low player retention. Hence why this game will never have a big player count.
