the problematic relationship between this community and basic comprehension of the English language

I can hardly believe that I feel the need to explain this, but a lot of people on this subreddit seem to struggle with understanding something as simple as what an "experiment" is, so... 🙄

Cambridge dictionary defines "experiment" as: "a test done in order to learn something or to discover if something works or is true" 😌

please note that it does not define it as a "revival", a "finished product" or anything else along those lines, even though a quick glance at this subreddit would make you believe precisely that. 🤨

Bungie made vault breaker as a test, in order to learn, not as a "revival", in order to "save marathon". bringing in and retaining heaps of new players was never the intention behind this endeavour. 😒

let's try to cultivate a healthier relationship with the basic understanding of language, by practicing our reading comprehension and maintaining a clear intention of using words, which, by definition, accurately represent what we're trying to convey! 🗣️

this would result in a nicer and more constructive place to discuss the wonderful masterpiece known as marathon, for all of us! 🥰

I don't know about you, but I would greatly prefer that, over filling the feed with incomprehensible bullshit, indistinguishable from what you'd get by mindlessly pressing the suggested words on the keyboard of your phone. 🛐

I'll see you on Tau Ceti IV, runners! 🐸

So, Marathon's Shells need more customization (Repost)

This is just a repost of mine from the actual Marathon reddit, since I feel like it might be relevant.

Alrighty. This should be the last of my current grievances, hopefully? Bungo please-

Marathon falls under the category of an Extraction Hero Shooter, emphasis on the Hero Shooter part, which means that your playstyle is commonly dictated by the shell (or character) you select due to it's associated abilities which encourage a specific style of play. This also ties into how you can customize a shell (or character) since they tend to be cater to a per shell basis.

Genuinely, I believe that the 'Hero Shooter' aspect of Marathon is hampering a large portion of what Bungie can do with Marathon. The shells are limiting by design, with a lack lore or anything beyond their looks that makes us attached to them. Bungie cannot expand upon or even give them lore since they are intended to be a mass-produced archetype 'shell' used for a illegitimate operation. But, we still have cosmetics that suggest against that case.

Before I go into the gameplay aspect of this, i'll state this:

Appearance can be monetized, but you have to make a product that someone wants to buy to begin with. Modularity has proven to be something that can work for selling cosmetics. By giving the player-base the option of customizing a singular shell to their liking, then adding additional cosmetics as an incentive to buy into the premium to better flesh them out. You can create something that someone wants to buy. Sometimes we want the fantasy of dressing up our character our way to stand out, regardless of context. A lot of games do this and it works.

TLDR: Please give us a customizable shell that we can modify to our liking then using a pre-set.

The gameplay aspect of Marathon is understandably a bit more balanced towards its 'Hero-Shooter' nature, however, we should consider delving further into what Marathon genre is. It's staged in Sc-Fi and Cyberpunk (not the game, but a good point of reference) world. We are bio-mechanical robots with digital minds, so that means they should be augmentable (which as been proven before, in-game).

So, I'm suggesting we remove the 'Hero' or 'Class' based system and make it modular, play into what you already have. Abilities could be a series of selectable augments, both lootable and buyable. Rarity could dictate stats or it could introduce more specialized versions of existing abilities. You could encourage Runners to utilize specific sets by having a 'set bonus' that maybe reduces cooldowns, grants additional effects, etc, that play into the desired gimmick. But, also leave the freedom to mix and match various gimmicks. Take it a set further via making the 'ultimates' also modular, where you can be as silly as to run two or none. Their effects are quite strong afterall.

Anyways. That's all I have to say. Here's the TLDR:
Customize a singular, modular shell.
Abilities should be interchangeable with more specialized versions existing.

We finally found out why the player count is so low. Just 2 more weeks and we'll be back to Marabillions playing

u/Ridged_ChiPSS — 14 hours ago

The players will rush back next week 100%

You see, Bungie messed up and released the update coinciding with National Zoo Keeper Week, which ends today.

It was just a bad week to drop an update with such a huge national celebration of Zoo Keepers.

Once the Zoo Keeper Week is over later tonight players will rush back to Marathon, you just wait and see!

Although it may be a slow return, it's National Scotch day on Monday so that might eat into some of the player base, and we do have the wrap up week of the British Archaeology. Now you may think I was joking but I think we can all agree, British Archaeology literally shaped the world and likely the celebrations might take some players from our beloved game.

I think it's just been hard for Bungie and Marathon Devs having to compete with such massive events pulling the player count away, but we will see them come back! Have hope!

P.S How do I add my Vandal Flair on this subreddit? How will people know imma serious gamer if I don't have my Vandal Flair????

Guys... this is not funny anymore ! It was suppose to be Revival Week. Why are we already back to sub 8k, 24h-peak player count, 3-days after the release of the long awaited PvE mode 😭 😭 😭

u/Master_protato — 23 hours ago

So.. that was the revival week ? Below 8K again 😂😂

At this point I would prefer to rest in peace. This is just embarassing.

I don't know you guys...This is still looking bad after the PvE addition.

It's like they are trying to make a D2 rogue lite outta Marathon at this point. The kicker is it's only one strike mission ad nauseam like the D2 beta.
