Feeling a bit hard done by RSUs and tax

My RSUs right now are worth anywhere between 50k and 300k. No matter what they end up being worth in case of a liquidity event, I'm going to get absolutely f*cked by tax.

I'm in Scotland so my effective tax rate is 67%. The government will take the vast majority of money that would allow me to get out of the permanent underclass and leave me behind with nothing.

Even if I end up sacrificing a huge part of my salary and living on savings for a year, it'll still be a huge step back.

  1. My financial safety net will be gone
  2. I'm going to have to save up even more until the liquidity event happens

It just feels very unfair and it's just one more reason to move out of the country permanently.

Teaching my toddler Italian

My son is 4 and a half. I'm Italian, my wife speaks as close to fluent as a native english speaker can.

Since he was a baby we've:

  • read to him in italian
  • showed him italian shows
  • spoke italian on and off around him

I'll be the first one to admit we've not been consistent, but he wasn't an easy kid and it's easy to lose the will to try when no progress is being made.

That said he understands Italian perfectly, his accent is really good (when I feed him the answers) and he's not afraid of responding in Italian for a few cases. We've now been going full Italian at home for a month but he's made no progress.

The biggest challenges at the moment are:

  • he wants something -> I ask him to say it in italian -> he goes "can I---" and stops.
    • Often he'll start messing around and I can tell he doesn't care and doesn't even want to try
  • he'll just ask me to feed him the words, even for things I know he knows
    • If I don't he'll start getting angry
  • literally no reward will make him speak. I've offered him food, toys, you name it.
    • He's extremely stubborn unfortunately

Any tips? We have no family/friends that speak the language unfortunately. It's just me and my wife.

Is it too late?

Neighbour put this flag up in their garden, what flag is it and what does it mean?

I live in the southside, I think it’s a Templar flag, but why the fuck would someone have a Templar flag in Glasgow?
