Byzantine Seal Identification

I posted my first seal I bought a couple weeks ago and someone was able to give me a very detailed description of what it was and who authorized it.

I just picked up another and was hoping I could have this one translated too!

Thanks in advance!

Museum Markings

Another neat subsection of ancient coins I find myself collecting are old museum markings.

I just acquired the first coin pictured due to the museum paint / mark on it. This is now the second in my collection (my other one is pictured in the third image).

I would love to know more about the museum that marked the coin, but that information is long gone (unless a certain expert in this group has some knowledge on the subject)! I know the other coin I posted also has no tie to any museum.

Thanks for looking!

Apparatus Feb 13, ‘63

This is another coin that I got from the same auction I posted about yesterday (Commodore Turners coins).

I have been trying to pick up more coins with provenance. This caught my eye as it included a date on the ticket.

Does anyone know which auction Apparatus Feb 13, ‘63 is?

Thanks in advance!

Commodore Daniel Turner

Just received some coins from the estate of Commodore Daniel Turner. I got these from a recent Biddr auction. These are now be far my oldest provenance as Turner lived between 1794-1850 (which means his collection tags date from 1850 or before making them at least 176 years old!!).

Here is some information on Turner: https:// ussconstitutionmuseum.org/crew/daniel-turner/ - pretty interesting individual who served during the war of 1812!

The coins themselves appear to just be LRB, but the collector tags are definitely the reason I wanted the lot!

Royal Ontario Museum

Just visited the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and thought I would share some of the Greek coins in their collection (I also got some photos of their Roman and Celtic coins too - maybe I’ll share those later).

The photo quality on some is not the best, but still cool to see! I personally thought the three dekadrachms or Syracuse were neat to see!

Let me know if you want to see some of their Roman selection!

Lifetime Alexander the Great Drachm?

I picked up this Alexander the Great drachm a couple of weekends ago. Since Zeus’s legs are separated, would this be a lifetime issue?

17 mm, 4.03g

Greek Fractional Help

Does anyone recognize either of these two coin designs? I picked them up in a group of Greek fractional coins.

The Tyche Coin (coin 1) is around 2.63 grams and about 10 mm.

The second coin (looks to depict a man advancing right) is around 1.76 grams and about 13 mm. The zoomed in photo of the second coin is not the best, but the obverse seems to be a man looking right and the reverse is a figure advancing right.

Thanks in advance!

Helmeted Ptolemy

I just picked up the attached Ptolemy coin of Ptolemy V Epiphanes. The auction house indicated that Herakles is helmeted. Does anyone know if he is wearing the lion or the elephant headdress?

Thanks in advance!

I just picked up my first vintage Seiko! Not sure on the exact year, but I know it’s between 1986-1988. Is a SEIKO Sports Moon Phase Chronograph. Such a cool looking watch!

It wasn’t working when I got it, but I put a fresh battery in it and it is keeping time great! The only issue is the chronograph function seems to be broken (the second hand for the chronograph is stuck at the 21 second mark, but the minute tracker spins as it is supposed to)… has anyone encountered this issue before?

Are these quartz movements easy to service? Not sure if it is worth trying to clean the movement to get the chronograph function working properly. Alternatively, I have also looked only to see if I can just replace the movement, but haven’t found any for sale yet (only looked for a couple min though).

Also - the watch fits great! My wrist is just bent in the photo which makes it look tight 😂

Anyone else collect Gallienus Zoo coins? How many different versions are there?

Trying to see how many I can collect, up to 5 different ones now! The panther is probably my favourite currently

I recently have found myself picking up coins with Mt. Argaeus depicted on them. This includes this lot of Cappadocia Didrachms from a recent SAVOCA auction.

When trying to ID them using the RPC database, I discovered there a bunch of variations of Antoninus Pius Didrachms depicting Mt. Argaeus. Is anyone able to narrow down the specific ID of these coins (RPC #)?

I know the third coin depicts Hercules’ club. I haven’t began trying to ID that version yet. I have only been working on the Mt. Argaeus ones.

Thanks in advance!
