How do I move forward with my girlfriend’s siblings after a major argument? M20 F22

(I normally don’t post on Reddit but this has been bothering me for months)

About 6 months ago I got into an argument with my girlfriend’s sister. For context I’m 20 male and my girlfriend sister is 18,and her siblings are pretty protective of her.

Earlier that year I was involved in a serious airplane emergency where my instructor and I had to do an off airport landing at a random racetrack. It genuinely scared me and I honestly thought there was a chance I might die. Thankfully neither of us was seriously injured.

Apparently for months afterward, her sister had been making jokes/comments about the crash behind my back and sometimes in front of me. My girlfriend didn’t fully realize how often it was happening at first.

Then at Thanksgiving dinner her sister suddenly said something along the lines of, “At least I’m not a loser who got into a plane crash.” I snapped and responded with “At least I’m not single” referring to her ex since I had enough

As soon as I said it, she started crying and everyone got involved. Since then, her brother and sister haven’t really liked me. Her brother already had a negative opinion of me because months earlier I apparently ignored him at the gym the day after my grandfather who I live with had a cardiac event(he’s fine now). I genuinely didn’t notice him because I was stressed and distracted and felt exhausted but he thinks I intentionally ignored him and instead of talking to me personally brought it up to his family he’s a 26m but refuses to engage with me.

I apologized afterward for bringing up the ex because I know it escalated things and was immature. But later on my girlfriend admitted her sister actually had been “joking”about the plane incident a lot more than she originally realized I don’t think it’s appropriate to joke like that and had explained this many of tomes prior

I understand my response was immature, but I also feel like joking repeatedly about a traumatic situation where I genuinely thought I could die was crossing a line too. Just hurt and conflicted since I want peace and to have respect and not be disrespected my girlfriend is 22f for added context and everyone else is the family either likes me or is neutral.

AITA for bringing up my girlfriend’s sister’s ex after she joked about my plane crash?

AITA for snapping at my girlfriend’s sister after she joked about my plane crash?
