Advice please why do you do this?

Hey men, Sally 41 here.

I Went to watch a band on 3rd May alone as my friends were all in Benidorm. A guy came over and started chatting to me at the bar. He seemed surprised i talked back and said he thought i was out of his league (i am not bad looking) he said he could tell i just loved the music. he's 39, divorced, with two kids.

we got on well talking about music he asked for my number. The next day he text me and said how he liked my vibe he asked me on a date for the 12th of May. As he was away on Holiday the day after. While he was away he messaged all the time and video messaged it was nice. He asked me what i wanted to do on our date when he came back, and since he lived close by, I suggested a walk and coffee because i think that's the best way to get to know someone. I am not high maintenance although i may look it at first glance.

The date was lovely. What was meant to be an hour turned into five. After that we texted and voice noted constantly. His energy felt a bit off around the 15th and he sounded exhausted from work in his voice notes. Last proper communication was Sat 16th i knew he was having his kids that night so left him alone completely obviously. Since then complete ghosting. I only sent one check in message the evening of the 16th. He opened it two days later never replied.

He deff lives alone and is single, so I'm just confused. What was the point of pursuing me, asking me out, spending hours together, texting non stop, then completely switching? I'm genuinely laid back. I'm not clingy or jealous. I just go with the flow and don't force things. The sudden switch has really thrown me as it makes no sense why men do this?
