I moved to RI from the Rocky Mountains. I really miss the solitude and QUIET of hiking in the mountains. RI is so densely populated that I find it hard to find that feeling anywhere. Any ideas where to go in the state? Would love to feel like I’m away from society.

So far the closest I’ve found is way back in Lincoln woods but that’s hit or miss.

32m that just got into surfing this year. East coast in Rhode Island. I’ve taken a dozen lessons and started to really get the hang of it. Trying to find a board now.

Everyone recommends a longboard for me (6’ 230lbs, broad) because they have I’m too heavy for anything under 9 feet. Problem is I tried a 9’ board in “bigger” waves (4-5ft) and kept dunking the nose in and catapulting myself at the start of every wave. When I switched to a 7’6 I rode it great.

So should I try buying a longboard as everyone says? We don’t get many bigger days here but if I’m spending all this money, idk if I want a long one that dunks the nose on bigger waves. Obviously its a technique thing too…

I am dating someone who has Crohn’s and is gluten-free. I will be cooking for them for the first time this weekend and wanted to see if there were meals this group would recommend? In the future we can have conversations about what she likes and which foods work for her but I was hoping this would be more of a “surprise”.
