The original fate of Teyvat was silver
So, I came across several mentions about how the Moon sisters used to weave the silver thread of fate before.
> Even the three sisters, high in their jade-colored chambers, spinning the silver threads of fate for all living beings... When it came to ancient peoples and mortals struck down by fate, they were bound in threefold silence. Pity, compassion, admiration and longing were always separated by a gossamer veil of moonlight, spanning hundreds of thousands of miles. (Nocturne's Curtain Call)
This is the first instance that sent me on a rabbit whole to search for more and it paid off. Thus, my question is, the old fate system was represented by silver threads while the current one is from golden ones?
In Moonweaver's Dawn, Canon is explicitly called to weave the silver thread of fate:
> "The mistress of the Frost Moon has already spun every path in the world with her silver thread, and all things now move in step with the thread's silent dance." (Moonweaver's Dawn)
In Sacrificer's Staff:
> Indeed, that was the "right" kind of love, the only salvation left for the weeping masses.
The "right" path of kindness, even for one who had never truly laid eyes on the moon's silvery threads. (Sacrificer's Staff) -> Also the same chant here can be found.
Also, in Lauma's weapon:
> The spindle-wheel of fate had rusted, and the silver thread had grown dim. Prophetic visions alone could not bring true hope to the people. (Nightweaver's Looking Glass)
Also, in relationship to Aila:
> Those were the last words the first master thief left for posterity.
If only the girl who accompanied him could have been like her little twin sister,
Watching the silver thread come to its end, that moment would surely... (Memorata-Cognoscenti's Jest)
We can also find mentions of the silver thread in relationship to the moon sisters in the World Quest: Echoes of the Unfinished Past:
> Ahem! Anyway, this must be the Moon Maiden's guidance at work — how else could I be so fortunate as to run into you both at a time like this?
> Exactly! That's what we call fate. "With her silver spindle, she weaves paths as one, whether they be of the rich, or the- (Echoes of an Unfinished Past)
Nord-Krai Description:
> Follow the silver thread spun by the new moon, traverse biting gales and desolate tundras as the snow-kissed lakes, fractured like mirrors, reflect their ageless, glacial radiance.
This whole concept of moons weaving the silver threads of fate and how Aila "severed" the threads of several people under the hood reminds me of the Norns. It is about a group of deities that shape the destiny and fate of humanity, and amongst them, 3 deities known as Urðr, Verðandi, and Skuld, weave the threads of fate and tend to the cosmic tree Yggdrasil, which might just be a reference to the Three Moon sisters and Irminsul.
I put this bit under a big question mark, since one line from the 2.8 event Golden Apple Vacation Returns! Quest tells us about this:
> "My beloved retainer, have you noticed that silver thread, of which fate is woven, now twisting and twining itself around you? The Auge der Verurteilung des... hmm? Des... Großen Kaleidophantasmas... will be watching you..."
Now, ignoring the fact this is Fischl's flowery discourse, she has been used to establish relevant parallels between the real world of Teyvat itself. And this got me thinking, the original fate system wasn't abandoned, but instead re-woven by the angels in golden threads after the model of Phanes's design.
What do y'all think? To be fair, this might just be a loose metaphorical description instead of some conclusive thing.
