Dispatchers — what does nobody outside this job actually understand about what you do?

I'm talking about the real skills, the unwritten rules, the stuff that takes years to learn that no software or training manual ever captures.

Would love to hear the unfiltered version.

Dispatchers — how much of your day is actually firefighting?

I've been talking to a few ops managers at mid-sized fleets lately and almost everyone says the same thing — the route is planned perfectly at 6 AM and completely blown up by 9 AM.

Curious to hear from people actually in it:

— When a driver calls in sick or traffic kills a route mid-day, what does your dispatcher actually do? Is there a system or is it all phone calls and gut feeling?

— Has anyone ever tried to calculate what last-minute route changes actually cost the company? Fuel, time, missed deliveries?

— What's the one thing about your dispatch operation that you wish someone would just fix already?

Would love to hear the unfiltered version!

Looking for a co-founder or early key collaborator with strong supply chain, warehouse, logistics, or distribution experience.

About the project:
I’m buildinga practical service that helps small-to-mid warehouses and supply chain businesses implement simple, AI automations (inventory alerts, maintenance workflows, order syncing, reporting, etc.) that their teams will actually use.

I have a Master’s in data technology, hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, and no-code tools (Zapier/Make). I’m already doing discovery conversations and planning the first paid audits. The model is productized services → retainers with strong recurring revenue potential. I’m based in Philadelphia and targeting the Tri-state area (NY-NJ-PA) first.

What I’m looking for:

  • Real expertise in warehouse operations, supply chain, or logistics (you’ve lived the daily pains — inventory, fulfillment, maintenance, etc.).
  • Passion for scaling a business and building/developing automations.
  • Someone who values human-first relationships and practical solutions (not just hype).
  • Location: Ideally NY-NJ-PA area (but open to strong remote fits).
  • Stage: Early (we can start as advisor/collaborator and move to equity co-founder if it’s a great fit).

This is early stage — I have the technical foundation and customer outreach system running, but I need someone who deeply understands the operations side to help validate, refine, and scale the automations and go-to-market.

If this resonates, comment or DM me with a short intro (your background + why this interests you). Happy to hop on a quick call to share the full vision and learn from your experience.

Looking forward to connecting!
