SF vs LA acting headshots

My acting teacher said that SAN FRANCISCO headshots are a lot different than LA headshots and I'm wondering what is the difference??

She said that casting directors can tell the difference and are more likely to cast someone with LA headshots.

She also said that LA headshot photographers shoot it differently than SF photographers.

Can someone give me examples?

Hey everyone, I’m stuck choosing between CSUN and UCSD and could really use honest advice from people in film/acting.

I am a transfer student coming from CC

My situation:

I want to be an actor and also get into editing/film work (like trailers, post-production, etc.)

I’m serious about working in the industry and building connections early

I want to be able to take auditions, do student films, and get on sets, work local hire when needed

I’m trying to figure out how much location actually matters

Option 1: CSUN (LA)

Pros:

In LA → close to auditions, sets, internships

Film/TV program seems more hands-on and industry-focused

Easier to be a “local hire”

Can say yes to last-minute opportunities

Cons:

I don’t know anyone there

Housing situation is unclear

Not the nicest area/campus vibe

Would be stepping out of my comfort zone immediately

Option 2: UCSD (San Diego)

Pros:

My friend is going so I won’t be alone

Nice area, feels more comfortable/safe

Still has a film program (maybe more academic though)

Could focus on building skills first

Cons:

~2–2.5 hours from LA

Not really an industry hub

Networking seems more limited

Would have to plan trips to LA instead of being there daily

My main dilemma

I’m wondering:

Does being in LA (CSUN) actually make a huge difference for networking and opportunities?

Or can I realistically go to UCSD, drive up to LA when needed, and still build connections?

Is being 2 hours away a dealbreaker in this industry, or just inconvenient?

Alternative plan I’m considering

Go to UCSD for a year (since I’ll have support), then:

Transfer to CSUN if I feel like I need to be in LA

Or just move to LA later once I have more experience

But I’ve heard transferring (especially UC → CSU) can be messy, so I don’t know if that’s a good idea.

What I’m really trying to figure out

Am I losing a year of opportunities by not starting in LA?

Or is it smarter to start somewhere I feel comfortable and build up first?

How much of networking is really about just being physically there every day?

Honest thoughts welcome

Is LA access worth the risk of being uncomfortable? Or can UCSD still work if I really push myself?

I’d appreciate any real experiences or advice
