Update!

No new hatches. If no one else hatches by tomorrow night, I will source and sneak another day old chick under her.

She is being the best little mama. I can't handle it. 😭

Thank you so much to everyone for all of the advice. 🤍

She did it! She worked so hard!

My sweet sweet Buff Orpington has been obsessively broody for months. I could not break her, so I gave in. This morning she hatched a cutie Turken/ bantam Cochin cross and I'm over the moon. It has nakey neck and boots with the fur 😭

QUESTION: I've never had a hen hatch before. What are some things I should do to help survival in letting her raise it. I have given her and her eggs a dedicated coop that was not in use. I have cleaned it out, but should I provide medicated starter crumble to prevent cocci?

I never have my chicks on the ground and environment from birth so I'm not sure what to do. I've made her a ground nest in a rain barrel with straw.

How long should I wait before pulling other eggs so she doesn't continue to sit and neglect the hatched? How hands on or hands off should I be?

Any advice appreciated, thank you!!! 🤍
