11 years ago, I took my ‘01 M Coupe on a drive to the Arctic Ocean.

Hard to believe this was so long ago now, and since I’ve recently bought an M2, I was reminiscing about this wild trip my friend Mark and I did a long time ago.

We drove 7,700+ KMs in 11 days across two provinces and two territories, with over 1,500 kms of gravel roads in a part of the world with no cell service, no roadside assistance, no gas stations, nothing.

We wanted to tackle the Dempster Highway in a car that had no business being anywhere near it, and I can’t think of anything else to do it in.

Just us, a two lane road, and a tiny town at the end of the world. Along the way we hit birds, goats, all sorts of rocks, had one flat tire, almost ran out of gas twice drank way, way too much beer, and took outrageous pictures along the way.

This trip started and cemented my love of the north, where I work to this day as an airline pilot in the Arctic.

If you want Mark’s write up of the whole trip, it’s right here. Enjoy!

I actually got a DM from the guy I sold it to recently and it’s still truckin’ along so that’s great to hear too!

Back in the ///M Club

Picked up an OG M2 with 83,000 kms on it a few weeks ago and it’s so nice to be back in an M.

My last toy car was an ‘01 S54 M Coupe, and it’s nice to have a fun car again.

A collection of Baffin Island over the years.

Some of my pictures from Baffin over the last few years, in celebration of Canada Day today!

The M2’s natural habitat.

A 52 litre tank is BMW’s best joke yet.

Back in an ///M and loving it.

One day of driving, and about 7 hours into my 35 hours and 3,400 kms of driving it home, my new ‘17 M2 relaxes in the hotel parking lot after a rainy day of driving.

My last BMW was an ‘01 M Coupe, which was fantastic. This actually reminds me of a it a bit; it’s pretty darty on the highway, it rides well, it’s a bit loud inside. The new interior is miles ahead and the seats are way more comfortable though.

I’ve got 11 hours of driving today, so off I go!

Loan/LOC for a car older than 10 years

Hey everyone,

I'm driving myself nuts here trying to find a place that would finance an older classic car, that would be classically insured and used as a weekend toy.

I have a mortgage, own another vehicle outright, and have a personal LOC that I don't want to load up for this, I want to be able to pay one account and work it down from there. Probably looking to finance around $45,000.

Any advice for who to contact about something like this?
