Do the original owners really not care who they're giving their dog to?
I applied to adopt a dog that was being rehomed by the owner on the "AdoptADog" website. Immediately after submitting the application I was contacted by the dog's owner via text message and we began exchanging info about the dog. My intention here was to assure the owner that her dog would be going to a safe and loving home and that there would be specific things that needed to take place before the transition. I requested the dog's medical records from the owner for several important reasons. One being that she claimed on her dog's profile that he was fixed and up to date on all vaccinations. This part is super important because I have a 17 yr old dog in my home already and I didn't want the new dog to make mine sick, if that weren't the case before I could get it to my vet for a checkup. Second, going to the vet is very expensive, as you all know, and if in fact this dog owner had lied about him being up to date on shots, heartworm and flea preventative, the financials would def need to be sorted out ahead of time.Third, the owner had found him as a stray in Cali before bringing him to my state and he also hadn't been to a vet since moving here a year ago. I thought asking for medical records was a reasonable request, esp after we'd been texting for 3 days and I explained the understanding behind the request in case she didn't know why. Upon getting this request, the owner sent me a text stating that she was stopping the rehoming process and had deleted his profile on the site. Yet, not even 1 minute later after denying my application and taking down his profile she immediately posted his profile again to rehome him. Also, in our ongoing conversations leading up to this, I noticed the story/reasons she told me in our texts and the explanation for rehoming him on the website just wasn't lining up at all. When I politely questioned her about the discrepancies in her stories she became agitated when responding. I gave her every dream scenario and truthful reasons why rehoming her dog to me would be the most ideal for all involved only to have her shut it down without any sort of explanation. The homeless pet population and dumping of dogs is the worst it's ever been esp in my state. So, I don't understand why people act like finding a suitable home for their dog is such a burden and when the new/potential owner of the dog has requested essential info about the dog this is then scene as intrusive. I say, don't use websites to make yourself look better for wanting to get rid of your dog. Take them to the city pound or find a rescue who'll do the legwork for you. Just don't lead people on with the hopes of that dog coming home with the adopter. Why do you think she acted this way?
