i wanna start off by sharing my first experience w this company during our career fair last feb (?). approached this company's booth knowing that they were one of the big 4 auditing firms. tho di nman ako BA student, curious lang naman ako so i wanted to sign up for their talent pool in case na may openings.
RED FLAG #1
while in line, one of their supervisors came up to me and asked what my program was. when i replied, he hit me with "oh, mga accountancy lang mga kinukuha namin dito. you know what we do?" na para bang dinidiscriminate na ako at pinapamukhang tanga.
so i replied back with "yes, i know what you do. i know you guys are an auditing and consulting firm. my brother who studies business economics wants to get into your company."
even though i was put off, i still signed up for the talent pool.
of all the booths i've been to, sila lang yung ganun. buti pa yung supervisor ng sgv - she even encouraged me to sign up for their talent pool for their other departments kasi she also studied humanities nung undergrad.
this specific firm lang talaga left a very sour taste in my mouth, but i got over it eventually.
RED FLAG #2
i applied for an internship with this company recently and was bombarded with calls first thing in the morning. i asked for the call to be rescheduled and they set the call sa afternoon. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT THIS WAS FOR THE INTERVIEW ALREADY. a clear account of miscommunication already.
RED FLAG #3
when i was looking for the meeting link, hindi pa pala sinend ni HR officer, so i had to follow up sa kanya and she gave me the link a minute before the interview!!!
RED FLAG #4 (and the worst of them all)
when i got into the call, miss hiring manager was cutting me off every time i would reply to the HR officer's questions. what's worse is, she said outright "we are looking for people who are really good at communicating" in such a condescending tone. then, she would make leading remarks about my way of talking that really just put me off.
no ice breakers, no check-up feel-good priming questions to make me comfortable. she was straight up berating me 2 minutes into the call.
when we went forward with the interview primer, she gave me a specific prompt which i followed. however, her prompt was in itself unclear since she wanted me to talk about college specifically, but went on to ask about my org experience in 2022 (when i was still in HS). she said that this already was a point of confusion. she even share screened my cv to show that i was leading her off.
BRO??? ITS LITERALLY WRITTEN THERE THAT I WENT TO COLLEGE IN 2024!
at that point, i've had it with the woman. she kept blabbering about how i was unclear every time i spoke, but said it in such a condescending way that made me think that she really just doesn't want me there - nor does she wanna do interviews in the first place. mind you, this was an initial interview pa lang.
before people go on to tell me that she was giving constructive criticism: ive dealt with so much criticism in my life, and i know when people are downright insulting me.
if they thought i was so bad, why ask me so many questions? she literally was saying that i was so bad, so why not just end it there?
so, that was what i did. while she was "reviewing" my org work, i decided to end the call and block the company entirely.
i was so enraged by this situation. never in my life have i felt more disrespected by a company ever. while i believe that people of that position do judge applicants for a living, iba naman yung talagang hindi mo na pagsasalitain tapos iinsultuhin mo pa. she even hated every time i tried to pause and think before i uttered words.
moreover, the lady who kept talking about being a good communicator doesn't even have basic reading comprehension skills, bc tell me why ure saying that my org work from 2022 is from college??? even the prompt she gave me was so unclear.
***
thank god i didnt push through with that bc imagine having to work with the most discriminatory people ever. napaka unprofessional tapos sila pa mag b-brag na kesyo they're exclusive. edi magsama kayo dyan!
i have done so many interviews and never in my life have i experienced something as traumatic as this. to all hiring managers out there, remember that respect is always something that should be mutual. i have given this person nothing but respect and kindness, but to talk to me as if i were an individual without dignity is blatanly wrong.
for people who unfortunately work in this firm (or have experience with it), i want to know sana if this company is actually as bad as i think it is... there is no way that i'm the only person who they've treated like this bc omg, this looks like a widespread issue across a lot of employees 💔
thank you so much for listening to my rant T_T
never again na talaga dito!!!
edit: the company is deloitte. they just put up a new listing so beware!!
