IS IT POSSIBLE? SIMPLE E-BIKE / E-MOTO LAWS

The biggest increase in emergency room visits are teens on overpowered "bikes" and a lot of bad influences on IG and YouTube are making the problem worse. Every town now has a store full of Surrons (ERides, Talarias, etc, etc.) and parents dropping $3k+ on these "toys".

With every state, city and town passing harsh laws on e-bikes / e-motos, is it possible to create rules we can all agree to? I doubt it, but it's worth a conversation. If we come together, perhaps we can (as a community of riders) propose legislation?

I realize that hidden switches can be used to instantly "detune" the bike if caught and I'm certain other work-arounds will appear. I also realize that many will not give $hit about laws and will do their thing. They will run from cops, they will tear up golf courses, and they will hurt themselves and others. For the rest of us, I propose...

CONSIDER:

- All based off of top speed capability. Stock OR modified, does not matter.

- E-bike class does not matter. Only top speed does

- Looks don't matter. Only top speed does.

- Speed measured on a portable dyno device or by radar.

- Modify all you want, but if you're caught in a higher speed, then higher speed rules apply.

- Also apply this to e-scooters and one-wheels?

20MPH TOP SPEED + PEDALS or PEGS (w or w/o throttle)

- Under 18 = strapped bicycle helmet required

- Can go anywhere a bicycle can go. Sidewalks, bike lanes, or off-road.

28MPH TOP SPEED + PEDALS or PEGS (w or w/o throttle)

- All ages = strapped full face bicycle / dh helmet.

- Can go anywhere a bicycle can go. Sidewalks, bike lanes, or off-road.

30MPH+ TOP SPEED - STREET LEGAL

- Pedals, no pedals, pegs, throttle, etc. Does not matter

- Motorcycle helmet (DOT+).

- 16+ only

- Training course mandatory

- Moto License, registration, and insurance.

- Streets or off-road.  No bike paths or sidewalks.

30MPH+ TOP SPEED - DIRT ONLY

- Pedals, no pedals, pegs, throttle, etc. Does not matter.

- All ages wear motorcycle helmet (DOT+).

- Minimum age up to parents.

- Registration (Cali green sticker, or your state's version)

- Legal off-road OHV areas / private property / racetracks only

A little update on the FUSE design...

A bunch of Redditors have messaged me wondering about the type of bike we are developing and if I could share more details. Here are a few more...

  • It would be best described as a Standard / Naked style of bike.
  • This image is about 80% accurate. MANY unique features are not visible.
  • Incredibly adjustable ergonomics for 5'0" to 6'4" rider comfort.
  • Seat height, peg locations, handlebar locations can all be adjusted A LOT!
  • "Honda compatible" wear parts (brakes, levers, pegs, etc.)
  • Open database of parts the owner can print to customize.
  • DOZENS of ways to customize / upgrade it. Imagine the "Arduino of motorcycles".

LMK, if you have questions and I'll try to answer.

Oh, and website coming soon. We'd welcome a follow on IG for now:

I'm developing a new Urban Electric Motorcycle.

My first post here, so I'll probably get some flak and disbelief. I have 40 years of motorcycling experience (just about every type of riding) and 35 years in manufacturing / product development. For the past six months I have been designing and developing a new type of urban electric motorcycle. Not another copy of a copy, not a Surron copy, not a plastic spaceship, not a designer showing off their skills, but a motorcycle that will really blow people away.

A real motorcycle: Simple, durable, functional, practical, affordable, AND good looking.

Without giving away too much here are some features. We start with a low-cost entry model. It will work perfectly for basic transportation as is, but...

  1. Very easy to use, ride, maintain, and accessorize/customize.
  2. DOZENS of ways to customize it. Just about EVERY component.
  3. MANY ergonomic adjustments to make it fit a lot of different body types.
  4. Made for the street, but dirt road capable.
  5. Single 72v 35ah battery with a dual option. Both removable.
  6. MANY features that do not exist on other motos. I know that's hard to believe.
  7. NO Bluetooth. Not web enabled and not app dependent. Old school simplicity that will not become obsolete.
  8. many universal parts. Honda compatible levers / brakes / bars, etc.
  9. A LOT more I cannot mention yet.

That's about all I can reveal at this point. Currently working on a partnership agreement with a manufacturer. I'll be sharing my journey on Instagram and Facebook. On Reddit also, unless this post gets yanked for selling or advertising. I don't have anything to sell (yet?) 😄

IF you're remotely interested, please search IG (or FB): Fuse Motorcycles

IF you want to know who I am and my background, Google: Gene Sherman Vocademy

IF you want to tell me I have no chance, or share suggestions, or some encouragement, please post below. I'm not trying to sell anyone, just starting a conversation.
