If you don't know what a "gacha" game is: It's a specific style of freemium game that works like a slot machine at a casino.

These are addictive by design, especially for us ND people (I'm AuDHD) who are extra susceptible to the tactics gacha designers use to keep you hooked. I must've spent hundreds of dollars and countless hours of my life back when I played it religiously years ago.

I reinstalled it 2 months ago on a whim, and I felt it destroying my attention span and desire to do other things, especially since I've been trying to improve my focus.

So I did the grown-up thing and uninstalled it. I still have the cravings for now, but I've lived for years without it and will continue to do so.

(It was DBZ Dokkan Battle for me, btw, but I reckon any former gacha player would agree with me no matter what their preferred poison was.)

As with Brian Jacques's "Redwall" series of books, or Art Spiegelman's "Maus" graphic novels, my world is just people issues with a furry coating (not a fur coat, that's different).

I know it's weird to put Little Tail Bronx in the same category as POTA, but LTB has been a huge inspiration for me to start writing my own project.

Not that it doesn't make sense in my world, being a pastiche of late 1800s/early 1900s Western European cultures.

And it's not that Fantasy Racism(TM) as a concept is inherently sinful.

But, boy howdy, do I not want to fall into the Orc Cop category of poorly-contrived racism allegories. Especially since there's only 1 species of living human, while any animal you can think of probably has hundreds.

I truly hate how you can't even check how readable your writing is without this AI junk in your face all the time. I despise genAI with a passion and now I accidentally fed some of it.

So frustrating! I just wanna know if I can write at a college or sub-college level. (The story in question is fiction, so I know college level writing isn't necessary, but still.)

This is not to say I can't "roll with the punches" but good GODDESS is it annoying to be a creative type.

On the plus side, it said I wrote at a 9-10th grade level, when the average US reading level is at the 8th grade, so... Yay?
