Why does ReXGlue get so much hate in the recompilation community?

I feel like there's a lot of misunderstanding around ReXGlue, and sometimes people seem to associate it directly with bad ports or poor performance.

ReXGlue is a tool/framework used in the recompilation process. The final quality still depends heavily on how the developer implements, optimizes, and maintains the project.

If a project has poor performance, missing shaders, bugs, or other issues, I don't think it's fair to automatically blame ReXGlue without looking at the actual implementation.

I'm using ReXGlue in my own recompilation, and I've been able to optimize and improve the project considerably as development continues. That experience is part of why I'm curious about the community's opinion.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Recompile, Should I Go Ahead or Wait for Mystixor?

Hi all,

I love the vanilla version of Ninja Gaiden 2, the original 2008 release, and I also really enjoy recompiling older games.

I recently completed a recompile of The Darkness (2007) from the Xbox 360 version, making it a native PC version.

I’m also considering doing a recompile of Ninja Gaiden 2. Do you think I should go ahead with it, or would it make more sense to wait for Mystixor’s recompile?

Estacado: a static recompilation of The Darkness (Xbox 360) for PC – first pre-release

Hi all, I wanted to share a project I've been working on: Estacado, a native PC port of The Darkness (Xbox 360, 2007), made by static recompilation.

How it works

The game's PowerPC code is translated ahead of time into C++ with XenonRecomp and built on the ReXGlue SDK, whose system and Direct3D 12 GPU layer come from Xenia. There's no JIT or interpreter at runtime: the game runs as a native Windows program, while the Xenos GPU is still emulated on D3D12. The goal is a game-specific PC version, with fixes and options tailored to this one game.

What it adds

- 60, 120, 144, 240 or uncapped, with the game's timing kept correct (the world still ticks at 30 Hz, and scripted scenes, physics and audio run at their original speed)

- 1x/2x/3x internal resolution or automatic, and SMAA

- Native mouse look, rebindable keys, FOV, in-game settings (F1) and experimental widescreen

A few things that were fun to track down

- At high frame rates Jackie walked too fast, but only with a controller. An analog stick makes the game queue about 13 movement commands per frame, and above 60 FPS those overflowed its per-step packets. Keyboard input was never affected.

- The game sets its exposure by counting bright pixels with occlusion queries in a small ring of slots. Late results from the emulated GPU could land in a slot the game had already reused, which produced yellow or stuck-dark frames.

- GPU overhead: the frame-start depth clear was copying about 47M samples per frame into a buffer that was immediately overwritten, and reworking the upload path roughly halved GPU time at 1x.

You need your own copy. It supports the USA/Europe disc (En/Fr/De/Es/It) as an ISO or extracted files; the launcher checks the version and sets it up. No game data is included or linked. Requirements: Windows 10/11, an AVX2 CPU and a D3D12 GPU.

Status: pre-release. So far it's been tested on one Windows 11 PC with an NVIDIA RTX card, and played from the start up to the orphanage explosion scene. Reports from AMD, Intel and Steam Deck users are very welcome; there's a bug report template on GitHub that asks for the logs folder.

Huge thanks to the Xenia team, ReXGlue and hedge-dev's XenonRecomp. This stands entirely on their work.

I just discovered another The Darkness recomp project after reaching the main menu, should I keep going?

Hi everyone,

I have been working on an independent static recompilation project for The Darkness (2007), with the goal of making the original Xbox 360 version run natively on PC without relying on an emulator.

This is genuinely a dream project for me. I love The Darkness, and since the first game never received an official PC release, I wanted to see whether I could help preserve it and finally make a native PC version possible.

I have already put a lot of time into the project and made real progress. The recompiled executable boots, a large part of the Xbox runtime and initialization path is working, and the game now reaches and displays the main menu. There are still issues to solve before I can get into stable gameplay, but it has gone far beyond being just an experiment.

Today, however, I discovered that somebody else is already working on a native recompilation of the same game and has apparently reached gameplay up to Chapter 2. Their project appears to use ReXGlue with a custom Xenos plugin, while mine is an independent XenonRecomp-based implementation with its own runtime work, so they are not the same codebase.

I want to be clear that I am not accusing them of copying anything, and I understand that nobody owns the idea of recompiling this game. I simply did not know their project existed, and honestly, finding it after spending so many nights working on mine was discouraging. It made me wonder whether continuing my version still has any value.

Do you think it is worth continuing an independent implementation even when another project is further ahead? Can multiple recomp projects for the same game still be useful for preservation, accuracy, portability, research, or as alternative implementations?

I still really want to finish it, especially now that I have reached the main menu, but I would appreciate an honest perspective from people who understand decompilation and recompilation projects

Getting Kicked at Extraction in Payday 3 Is Killing the Experience for New Players

Hi all,

I’ve noticed something while playing Payday 3 through quick match. Twice today, I got kicked by the host right at the extraction point, literally at the last second before finishing the heist.

I didn’t troll, grief, or do anything weird. I was just following the team’s lead and trying to help however I could.

Is this some kind of joke in the community, or am I missing something? I’m still pretty new to the game (level 45), so if I’m doing something wrong I genuinely don’t know what it is.

What really frustrates me is that all that time is just gone for nothing. In Helldivers 2, if someone kicks you, you can still continue and finish the mission on your own. In Payday 3, you just get removed and lose everything.

And to the people who kicked me, if by any chance you’re reading this: if you don’t want randoms joining your game, please set your lobby to private. And if you absolutely plan on kicking someone, do it at the start instead of wasting 20–30 minutes of their time for no reason.

Appreciation for the Umbrella Add-on Developer

Hi all,

I just wanted to share my appreciation for the Umbrella add-on.

When I first started using Kodi, Umbrella was one of the first add-ons I came across. I tried it out and was honestly amazed by it. After that, I went on a bit of a spree trying different add-ons, including Fen Light, and I ended up sticking with Fen Light AM for a while. No specific reason, really. It just seemed to be what everyone liked, so I followed along.

Fast forward to now, with Fen Light AM shutting down, I returned to Umbrella, and personally, I find it even better than Fen Light.

I just want to thank the developer for all the hard work, constant updates, and for always being available to help the community. That kind of dedication is a huge blessing.

Thank you to the Umbrella developer.
