My Instagram (265K followers, Meta Verified since 2024) was hacked, recovered, then permanently disabled — need advice/visibility
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone here has been through something similar or knows how to escalate this further.
On June 15th, between 8–10 PM, my Instagram account was hacked. When I got home and checked my phone, everything had been changed — my email, phone number, and profile photo were no longer mine.
I've been a Meta Verified (blue tick) subscriber since June 2024, so I contacted Meta support multiple times and opened several cases. After a lot of back and forth, they did manage to recover my login and give me access back.
But shortly after, Instagram disabled my account — and from what I understand, it's because of the unusual activity the hacker caused while they had control. Meta has now told me this is a "final decision", even though:
- I did nothing wrong
- They already helped me recover the account, which shows they know it was a hack
- The suspicious activity was 100% caused by the hacker, not me
This account isn't just numbers to me. I built it from 0 to 265K followers over years of real work, and it holds highlights of family members who have passed away — memories I can't get back if this account is gone for good.
I'm ready to verify my identity, share screenshots of my growth journey, or provide anything else that proves this is genuinely my account and that I've done nothing to violate their policies.
If anyone knows:
- A way to escalate past the "final decision" appeal
- A Meta contact who handles Meta Verified subscriber cases specifically
- Any other channel that's actually worked for someone in a similar situation
I'd really appreciate it. Tagging in case anyone from Meta sees this: u/Instagram
