27M from India (Mechanical Engg) — Switched to IT, stuck at ~$2,150/year DevOps → Testing role. Desperately seeking international/remote opportunities.

Hi r/cscareers,

I graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 2021 from India. After that I upskilled in C, C++, Java, and Oracle SQL. I did a 9-month unpaid internship, then invested ~$1,350 in CDAC’s PG-DAC course (a well-known post-grad IT program in India). I topped the batch, moved to Pune for placements, but didn’t receive any offers after 3 months.

Finally got a job in Dec 2024 as a DevOps Engineer in Nagpur (Tier-3 city) at ~$2,150 per year. They trained me on Linux, Git, Bash scripting, Python, and Docker. But in July 2025 they moved me to manual testing. Now in May 2026 I’ve only received a small hike of ~$84 per month and no proper appraisal. Growth is almost zero.

I’m 27, financially broke, and feeling completely lost. The anxiety about money and career is overwhelming. I want to break out of this situation and target international opportunities — preferably remote roles from India or relocation to better markets (US, Europe, Canada, etc.).

Questions:

How realistic is it for someone with my background (non-CS, career gaps, low local experience) to land remote international SDE / DevOps / Cloud roles?

What should I focus on in the next 6–12 months? LeetCode grinding, system design, AWS/Azure certifications, Kubernetes, Terraform, or something else?

Does my profile look salvageable internationally? Any success stories from similar non-traditional backgrounds?

Tips for applying to foreign companies while being based in India (visa sponsorship, remote-first companies, etc.)?

I know this subreddit is very international and standards/salaries are much higher in many countries — that’s exactly why I’m aiming there. Any honest advice, roadmap, or reality check would mean a lot. I’m mentally exhausted but still willing to put in hard work.

Thank you.

Hi r/nagpur,

I'm looking for genuine guidance from developers who are currently working in Nagpur (not students).

I've been exploring opportunities in software development here and would really appreciate insights from people who are actually grinding in the local IT scene right now.

Specifically, I wanted to understand:

How is the current job market in Nagpur for developers (2026 perspective)?

Which tech stacks/companies are actually hiring and paying decently?

Work culture, WFH vs WFO situation in local companies?

Salary ranges for 1–5 years of experience (Frontend, Backend, Fullstack, Mobile, etc.)?

Any good companies in Nagpur that you would genuinely recommend?

Growth opportunities and learning curve in local firms vs moving to Pune/Bangalore/Hyderabad?

If you're a working developer in Nagpur (any experience level), I'd be really grateful if you could share your honest experience. Feel free to DM me as well if you don't want to comment publicly.

Thanks in advance! Really need some practical local perspective.
