I know it's a federal requirement but it just seems so unfair that elderly people are living longer but, generally require LTC/SNF that they cant afford and then Medicaid comes after what little they might have, like the house they live in.

It's a shame that Medicare doesn't at least cover the costs for in Home aides (not talking PT/OT or Nurses).

At the very least I'm learning what I need to do for myself to ensure I have financial stability if I ever make it to 80+

Update: She didn't break anything but she's slightly anemic. Doctor wants to admit her for a couple of days and have PT work with her.

I'm guessing rehab would be the next step.

I feel so bad because she just wants to go home with me and I can't even figure out how I could get her home at this point.

Was trying to get my mom to the doctor and she slid out of the transport sling. Ambulance came because she said her back hurt.

Here's my question, assuming they admit her and don't discharge her from the ER what do I say to the Social Worker to get them to send her to a SNF?

Also, how do I go about getting her on Medicaid? I know Medicare will cover 30 days in a SNF but if she needs long term placement I think i need to get her on medicaid? Will the Hospital or SNF Social Worker help with that?

I'm probably getting ahead of myself because I think she's more bruised then injured. But she did just get over her 2nd UTI in 5 months and she was massively dehydrated a few weeks back.
