Windows 11 Won’t Open App Permissions (Crash/Freeze) 2026

Copied from another thread:

Hey everyone, I'm running into an issue that has me absolutely stumped.

Long ago, I blocked my camera and mic in privacy settings. I have now begun gaming again and attempted to use a new headset that wasn't displaying imput audio, even on volume tests through Windows. When I go to Sound Settings with my headset plugged in, a header warning says, "change your privacy settings to access microphone." When I click that header, or when I click microphone, or any app permission window, it freezes until I quit the Settings Menu. Now, imagine I needed this work for work, incredibly frustrating.

Fair warning, I'm not the most tech savvy person ever, but tried some troubleshooting attempts from the internet so far, such as:

- Powershell commands

- Console Commands

- Scannow/DISM

- Event Viewer warning AIP search / DCOM User Permissions

- Clean Re-Install

I'm really looking for a workaround that doesn't involve me moving a ton of files and programs. I have not attempted to make a new User on my PC, and want a second opinion on that. Do I need to take my laptop into a computer repair shop? Take it to a Windows/Microsoft dedicated store?

Appreciate all and any insight, I have lost sleep over this.
