Confused by options for flying with a toddler

I booked a seat for my 15 month old. We planned on using a car seat. After booking, we looked at the fine print and saw the car seat must be 17 inches wide maximum.

We cannot find a car seat that meets this requirement and isn't $200+. The Cosco Next has been discontinued. The Sonus has been discontinued. I tried googling and got results only to learn they are actually 19 inches wide. I tried finding a used seat. No dice.

I then thought about getting a harness. Except you are only allowed to use them if you book in the back row. We didn't and it's now full.

I have no idea why the rep on the phone didn't inform us of this when we asked if we could use a car seat or harness and if there were restrictions. We were just told yes we can and then just told they must forward face.

Has anyone flown recently in the same situation of wanting something to strap your toddler into? What'd you use?

Edit: thank you all for your feedback! I think I'll ditch the car seat, bring my baby carrier for if I need to rock him to sleep while standing, get an approved plane bed, and hope for the best with the lap seat.

Nuna RAVA safety check

Hi all!

I made the stupid decision to wash my nuna rava cover. I have spent 45 minutes trying to put the cover back on. After countless YouTube videos, this is as good as I could get for the bottom corners. Is this OK to reinstall? Or I do need it flush for it to be safe?

Side note: I washed cold, air dried it in my house, and it isn't an issue of fit but rather getting the plastic to slot in.

I am now going to buy a Chicco 360 fit zip because this thing is hot garbage but it doesn't arrive until next week.

Convertible Car Seat - not nuna

Hi all,

I bought a nuna rava after moving my nuna pipa. No offense to any who ones it, but the rava is hot garbage.

Not only is the seat cover impossible to get off in rear facing without essentially uninstalling the car seat, but the straps constantly twist. I even use the little side storage slots and it doesn't work.

I'm ready to set it on fire.

Does anyone have recommendations for an easy to install, easy to clean convertible car seat? Open to ones that turn or don't turn, though now I kind of wish I had a turning one.

Seeking new mattress

Hi all!

I read through the guide and FAQ and now I'm seeking guidance on a new mattress. The details:

Size: queen

Sleepers: me (165 lb, 5'8" somewhat muscular woman; 55 lb chocolate lab)

Positions: Side and stomach

Current issues: 10+ year old bargain mattress is giving up; lots of lower back pain; lots of thrashing trying to get comfy.

Things to avoid:

*I don't really want to have to get a special base

*I sleep hot, so something that cools or doesn't heat up is good

*I can't do latex

I'm interested in the diamond mattresses I've seen. I think I likely need medium firmness. I have tested some mattresses out but I don't have a diamond option near me.

Any other brands to consider for this combo?

Help me buy a jogging stroller

Hi all!

I'm currently in the market for a jogging stroller. I own a Bombi for travel and a UB Cruz. I love my Cruz, but I definitely can't run with it and it isn't as good on rugged terrain. I borrowed a BOB circa 2008 to test out, and I really think I'd start running if I had a jogging stroller because gosh it felt like pushing nothing.

I've been researching jogging strollers and it seems like most people get:

* A BOB

* A Thule

* A Guave Roam

* An Uppababy Ridge

How did you decide on brand and model? What features mattered most?

I would love a one handed open and close. I'd love something that doesn't take up my entire trunk (I have a RAV4 and my Cruz takes up so much room). I don't super love foam handlebars but it seems most have those.

Bombi travel bag?

Long shot, but does anyone have a rec for a padded travel bag for the Bombi single stroller? I have the bag that came with it but it is rather flimsy. We are planning on gate checking, so want something padded and thick.

Vet recommendations?

Hi all,

I have been going to Mill Brook Animal Clinic for about 7 years. Over the past year, things have taken a turn for the worse. The administrative experience is atrocious. No one picks up the phone half the time. When you do, I swear it must be a call center because no one has any info. We just got a call that our dog is going to need this big procedure when our last appointment was just for some yearly blood work, which came back normal.

I'm nervous about trusting Google as Mill Brook still has high ratings. Is Porter Square still good? Or Arlington Animal Clinic? We are in need of a place that can handle dental care and dogs who are scared of vets (she tries to hide).

I feel like I made a terrible mistake going to Mill Brook, and it is costing my dog dearly.

Is this wild violet or periwinkle?

Hi all! I read a post about wild violets being native to New England. I gleefully thought I had a reason to suggest we don't eradicate the pretty purple "weeds" in our shared yard. A kind redditor, though, warned me to double check that it isn't actually periwinkle, which is invasive.

Y'all, I googled and stared at photos for the better part of thirty minutes, and I can't quite tell what I have here. I'm assuming it is periwinkle because we have bad luck and the leaves don't seem heart shaped. I feel like I'm somehow plant-blind.

Can anyone confirm based on the photo?

Y'all: thank you!!!! I'm so happy!

Be careful if you cancel your Google Home Premium

I bought a nest doorbell way back when and had been paying for nest aware ever since.

Six months ago, I cancelled because my doorbell kept going offline, would say there was no activity when I could clearly see people on my porch, and would not recognize people as people, instead marking them as motion. The final straw was when the car directly in front of my house was broken into and the door bell sensed nothing for so long, it stopped recording.

Lately, it's gotten better and I got a reminder that my subscription is going to end. Try as I might, I couldn't find a way to resubscribe. After hours with Google support, I found out I can't. I have to wait for my membership to end, and then I need to make a new account. I'll lose all of my history. There's no way to avoid this.

I now have once again lost the incentive to subscribe.

Is this tree girdled?

I'm wondering if this tree is girdled? After all of the snow melted from this past winter, we noticed that my neighbor's tree, which is next to my driveway, had a bunch of bark missing. We suspect it is from the large bunny rabbit population which took out a few other smaller saplings. Do we think this tree is in danger of falling over? Should we have an arborist come look at it?
