Would I be responsible?

I had a big healthy tree come down in a storm. It broke my fence and crashed into my neighbor’s yard, hitting one of his trees and dislodging some of that tree’s branches. Those branches and a big chunk of my tree are now dangling just above his HVAC unit and his deck, but luckily didn’t hit any of them.

I need to clear my side so that I can repair my fence, but if I cut my side then the rest of the tree, already on his side, will continue crashing down and likely ruin his HVAC and deck. He’s told me he can’t afford the removal right now. The house is an Airbnb so he doesn’t live there and is totally unbothered by it.

If I cut my side to clear it and the other end of the tree ruins his HVAC, I’m not responsible am I? It’s been a month since the tree fell. I’ve had arborists and tree removal companies come and tell me they would typically remove his side of the tree first so that his HVAC stays intact. But I need my fence repaired so that my dogs can’t get out of the yard.

I’ve only lived here for two months and don’t want to start bad blood with the neighbor but I don’t know what to do!

White puppy with blue eyes

I’m so curious about my rescue pup! The shelter said they anticipated him being 25-30 pounds but I’m doubtful. He’s 8 pounds now at 12 weeks. I think he’s some combo of Jack Russell, poodle, maybe something like Cairn terrier? He has a couple faint brown spots and some black skin in areas. He also has both back dew claws.

White puppy with blue eyes

This guy is 12 weeks old. He has wire-y fur and is mostly white with some faint brown spots on his ears and one on his back. His eyes are blue. At 12 weeks he weighs about ten pounds. His personality hasn’t developed much, I’ve only had him for 24 hours and he’s very nervous and clingy! I’m thinking Jack Russel and…something? Can poodles have blue eyes?

Virginia - tree fell into neighbor’s yard during storm

I have a very similar situation to a lot of people here, and I don’t necessarily need guidance on this part, but here’s the story:

I have a big tree that fell during a wind/thunder storm. It fell into my neighbor’s yard and hit one of his trees, which caused that tree to lose some big branches. I know the debris on his side is his responsibility, but when he was told that by an arborist who came out to give me a quote he was not happy.

Here’s the part I don’t know how to address: he told the arborist that he will just cut up the lumber and instead of hauling it away will throw it over the fence onto my property since it’s “her tree to deal with.” I don’t know that he’ll actually do that but if he does who do I turn to? Is it something I take up with the county since he’s dumping stuff in my yard?

I added a picture of the tree. The fence it crushed is the line between my front property and the back parcel that I also own. To the left of the picture is my neighbor’s yard. The part of the tree shown in the picture is maybe a third of it. The other two thirds are in his yard.

Favorite HVAC company?

The evaporator coil on my 12 year old system is leaking, so I need to either replace the coil or the whole system. Who have you used and loved for HVAC? I have one quote so far and am torn on which way to go so I’d love someone straightforward and honest (as if that’s not exactly what everyone wants).

ETA: wow it is wild to me that every single response is different! Not a bad thing, just not what I was expecting. Is there any company you *wouldnt* use?

Poison ivy is ruining my life

I bought a house about a month ago and have had a poison ivy rash since about 25 days ago. I know I'm allergic to it and get bad reactions, so I've been avoiding a huge spot in my yard that has a very healthy, very mature plant creeping over the neighbor's fence. My dogs are less careful about avoiding it, and despite showers with Dawn, Technu, and even homeopathic soaps, I can't get rid of this rash.

I finally hired goats last week and they took care of my side of the fence. Like all of it. The only problem is that the plant is on the other side of the fence so is technically my neighbor's. I have *never* seen my neighbor home and the yard is overgrown enough that I think they don't live there year-round (or at all?). Even though the goats got all the vines on my side of the fence I know it'll eventually come back. How do I keep that from happening? Do I just need to stay diligent with cutting back the vines as they creep over? Do I sneak over there and kill the plant? Do I buy a permanent goat? (Kind of kidding but also... maybe that's a great idea.)
