🏸 Lazy Sunday Badminton

Lazy Sunday Badminton started as a Reddit-native movement with a handful of players at a local leisure centre. Since then, it’s grown into a welcoming community of almost 100 players from across London as well as players dropping in internationally during their travels.

Along the way we’ve:

🏟️ Expanded to 4–6 courts across Saturday and Sunday sessions, with an evening club night also being explored.

📍 Played at fantastic venues across East, North and Central London, including Talacre Leisure Centre, King’s Cross Fitness, Score Leisure Centre and many more.

🤝 Most importantly, we’ve watched genuine friendships form. Many players now arrange games together outside the club, and new faces are always welcome.

An even gender mix of working professionals of all backgrounds, ages and abilities, what’s great to see is players meeting up offline and making new friendships.

🤝 Beginners and improvers preferred for this but generally intermediate players preferred.

Free racket loan for the session, no rental or deposit, don’t buy any of your own equipment.

Ideal if you’re looking to get plenty of rallies in and enjoy an hour of quality badminton in a small-group setting.

⚠️ We simply split the court hire between attendees, so there are moderate court costs involved.

🏸 Evening Club Night, Interest Check

Hi guys, me again.

What started as a small Reddit-native movement Lazy Sunday Badminton has grown from a single court of 5–6 players into a community of over 80 players across two groups, regularly filling 4–5 courts per weekend and seeing 30+ players on court each weekend.

What‘s great to see is genuine friendships are being formed and players organise socials and even their own matches together.

As a result, you probably haven’t heard from me in a while, we’ve been busy playing badminton. 😅

The group has gone from strength to strength and we’re now exploring the launch of a new midweek evening club night.

I attend a friendly but structured Sunday badminton group in Newham (Royal Docks area), and they’re changing venues / opening things up to a few new players!

It’s grown from a single court to multiple courts and a regular core group / mix of beginners through to lower/intermediate players.

📍 Venue:

Oasis Academy Silvertown, E16 2BB

🕘 Time: Sundays, 9:00–11:00am (may shift to 9:30–11:30am)

You can access via DLR West Silvertown station, or via a 10min walk along a scenic bridge from Elizabeth line station: Custom House 🟣

📅 Starting: 10/05 (7-week run)

I’ve found this a great way to get some early morning exercise, meet new people and utilise a bit of my week where there’s dead space / not much else happening across London.. 🌅

There’s also better places to have after session socials where people can get to know each other even better.
