Renovation Advice Needed!

Hello! I'm going to buy a co-op in the next 12 months (I'm in a lease until then in the suburbs), and have been casually looking. An apartment in a good location just came on, but it needs a complete renovation (floors, kitchen, bath). It's a studio. Anyway, if I were to buy this now, is there a way to have someone project-manage this for me over the winter and then I can move in when it is done? I have a full time job here, and while I could pop in once a week, I won't be on-hand to fully manage a renovation like this. Would this be an interior designer or a contractor? Also, assuming medium-fancy finishes (LVP flooring, an IKEA-type kitchen, etc.) what would this probably cost me? THANK YOU!

Very cheap contact lens fitting fee around here?

I need to order contacts (been wearing the exact same ones since 1982, I'm not even kidding), BUT I have to get the annoying contact lens fitting. My insurance pays for the eye exam, but where can I go to get the fitting as cheap as possible around JC/Hoboken/NYC? Thanks!

Changing locks?

Hi, strange question but when you purchase a co-op in NYC can you change out the locks? I always did that in rentals since you never know who has the keys, but can you do it in a co-op?

Is an attorney to purchase a co-op really necessary?

I have a friend who just purchased a co-op and her attorney was so terrible that she lost out on thousands of dollars! I'm up next and the question in my mind is: do I really need an attorney? Can I just read the minutes and all of the co-op and see what is coming and the past history for the building? I'm on a tight budget so the savings would help as well. Any thoughts on this? Thank you!

Realtor Recommendation?

Hello, I'm in the early days of looking for an apartment to purchase on the UES. Can anyone recommend a patient and kind realtor who is also able to navigate the scary co-op board process? Thank you!

"Setting Up" Classroom....who pays for this?

Hi there! I just got an email about August and the days to "set up" my classroom. I live in a very high cost of living area on one salary, and my teaching salary will not even cover my rent on a tiny studio (I'm looking into working at the Target nearby at night). I have not been in the classroom for a few years, so I have no posters or decorations for the new classroom. I can't purchase anything, I'm even having a hard time purchasing food at the moment, and am terrified of the electric bill for this very hot summer. How are teachers expected to start decorating? Am I supposed to pay for this when I really can't? Help!

62/65+ Co-Op Property Tax Discount Procedure?

Hi there! I'm in the market to buy a co-op in the city for retirement. I'm counting on the lowered property tax when I am eligible. Question though, does the co-op give the older individual the tax break on their specific maintenance, or does the tax break go to the whole "pot" of tax money for the building and the specific owner does not see the benefit directly? Thank you!

Hi, just looking for info about the PTAC units that cool and heat the apartments, do they have a "fan only" button? I know this is a silly question but I'm thinking of moving there and wanted to know. Thank you!

Help! I need to find a way to make sure a window handle will not turn. It's a rental but I don't need the security deposit back, I just need my cats to be safe while I live there. There is a/c so I don't need air, and it is on a high floor so I'm so so worried. LOVE the building and the apartment, but can't take it unless I have a solution for this. It is an awning window that has a handle on the bottom and the window swings out.
