Uncle Rocco (Formerly Antique at 112)

Stopped by there because I heard they had Rotisserie Chicken (RC).

A whole chicken was $29. Half chicken was $24. Not sure why a half chicken isn't half price, but didn't ask questions. I have no idea how they are going to stay in business trying to sell $29 RC. I walked to Whole Foods and bought a RC for $7.99 on Tuesday.

Checked out the rest of the menu and it had a burger, some pasta, really not a lot of great (healthy) options.

Doneright the latest Washington St. victim?

passed by Doneright 2 days ago and it looks like they gave up and threw in the towel - noticed one of those “For Owner” Spectrum/Verizon envelopes taped to the door as well which is usually the sign of a dead business.

overpriced but I liked that spot - i don’t think they even lasted a year!

Parking Near the PATH?

Hey everyone! I’m starting a new job soon in NYC and will be taking the PATH into the city about 3x a week. I live around 20 minutes from Hoboken, so I’m planning to drive in and park near the PATH station.

I’ve been looking into garages/monthly parking passes, but honestly the reviews online are stressing me out a little with stories about people getting blocked in, long waits to get their cars, etc. 😅

Does anyone have recommendations for:
the best/safest garage near the Hoboken PATH
whether a monthly pass is worth it
garages that are easy to get in/out of during commuting hours
or honestly if there’s a smarter option I’m not thinking of

I don’t mind paying a little more if it means less stress and my car is safe. Would really appreciate any advice from people who do this commute regularly. Thank you so much!!

App that tracks which blocks you've walked

I've always wanted to walk every block of the city but knew the overhead of tracking those walks would be a pain, so over the last couple months I made an app that checks off each block once you've walked it. Some friends wanted to try it so I just uploaded it to the App Store.

It works for all 5 boroughs and you can turn on passive tracking so that your blocks are tracked without opening the app. There's also a leaderboard so you can see how your stats compare to other New Yorkers.

The app is called WalkNYC and it's completely free. It's only on iOS right now but I'm looking into porting it to Android. Would love any feedback you all have!

Here's the link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/walknyc-walk-every-block/id6758922428

Update: As of this evening it's actually ranked #79 in the Navigation category of the App Store!

any good stoner friendly bars with a patio to smoke?

I feel like jersey kind of lacks the smoker friendly vibes that nyc and brooklyn have where people can smoke in an outdoor section of a bar or a back patio. what places are similar but in jersey?

Moving - Verizon fios

I called Verizon because I was trying to figure out transferring my service to my new apt and when my actual service would stop at my old apt due to work from home situations. I didn’t see anything about a package increase when I tried to initiate the move in the app but when I called the representative, they started telling me how my bill would go up, etc.. Does your bill actually go up and you’re subject to new rates when you transfer service? Or is it a gimmick and because I called they’re trying to scam me for a new customer rate? Wondering if anyone else had this experience?

Why does JC have all the good restaurants and we have so few in Hoboken?

Having lived in hoboken for 12 years and previously 10 years in JC, I’ve seen both town grow and change so much.

Is it me or does other people seem to see this trend of amazing restaurants taking a chance on JC and Hoboken has very few really authentic or high quality restaurants? I love Dino’s, Apulia, Keming, Purple Rice, Shokudo, Martha’s, La Isla, and Sirenetta, Caffee Buon Gusto (some days amazing and some days terrible) but that’s about it…

And we’ve seen the closure of Orale but it’s booming in JC. And I see so many empty storefronts in Hoboken.

I’m just like confused. Is it landlords? Is the rent too expensive? Like why? I’m tired of driving to JC or going into the city for good food.

TREE trim our responsibility?

Our condo board wants to spend our money on trimming a tree , sighting it’s our responsibility if the branches MIGHT be obstructing the electrical wires. (They are not BTW) Wouldn’t PSEG trim it themselves if that were the case? Or at least send out a notice?

Guy exposing himself at Pier A on Saturday

Wondering if anyone else saw this guy on Pier A on Saturday 5/16. Me and my friends were hanging out there and this man sat right in front of us with his penis hanging out of one leg of his lime green shorts. He was wearing a black shirt and later put on a grey hoodie. It definitely seemed intentional because he kept looking down and adjusting it so more was showing. He eventually left our area, but hours later we saw him still walking around the pier just scoping people out

Rotisserie Chicken Questions

  1. Has anyone tried the Whole Foods RC yet? I'm normally a ShopRite guy, but wondering if it was any good.

  2. Has ShopRite changed up their RC? Used to be their own product that would be in a bottom black / clear top container, but now seeing RC in bags, too? Good? Bad?

  3. What other locations for RC? I know Kings has it. I read before a comment that said Acme has it, too?

Planning my weekend

Howdy, New Jersey or Jerseyans? I'm from out of town, one. My apologies for this heat wave. It seems that my state's weather just followed me here, lol. But I'm planning my weekend for a trip around the east side of your great state, and it starts Saturday with a trip down south towards the shores. I want to spend some time there, but would like to know which beach is best. I won't be here long, so I want to experience as much as I can. I was thinking of spending a good few hours at the beach, then driving out to an area to do a hike, and ending it off at night at Red Bank, where I've been told there's a huge bar scene for a lot of young adults my age. So: 1. Is this a good plan, or am I setting myself up for failure, and 2. Any good recommendations for beaches/hiking trails/bars? I only have so much time here, and I want to make the most of it. Y'all New Jerseyans have been so kind to me and my family through my move, completely shattering my expectations of the people and culture here. Thank you so much. This probably won't be the last time I lean on y'all for help. Thank y'all so much.

Looking for a cleaning service

Hi all, I’m new-ish to town and have decided I can no longer keep up with my home. We have 2 kids and I wfh 3 days a week, but tbh those days I’m more busy than when in the office! I can’t seem to keep my home clean to my standards anymore. Once the kids are home there’s no way to juggle it all. Does anyone have a cleaning company they could recommend that they trust and goes above and beyond? I’m a little picky, lol.

Some little thoughts about Hoboken

Sometimes I wonder if it's just me or if more people feel the same.

Where is the guy selling nuts in front of the Starbucks store in Hoboken, NJ?
Where are the 3 musicians who used to play jazz by the river during the weekends?
Where is the guy playing drums also on the weekends?
Where are those different music groups that used to play at the Sinatra Park Amphitheater from time to time? More music, please.
Hoboken waterfront needs more drinking water fountains, more small food vendors like popcorn and hot dogs, and so on, along the entire riverside. Kids complain about that. That’s my 10 cents.

Thank You Whole Foods Clerk

This past weekend I shopped at Whole Foods on Washington for a few things I could heat up for dinner and a block away looking for my phone in my large handbag I felt wetness that turned out to be all of the sauce in the container of sesame tofu spilling out because the container was never properly closed and sealed.

I pep stepped back to WF and went to the check out counter where a lovely young lady not only profusely apologized but allowed me to clean out bag, brought paper towels and wet ones and took the faulty container and my other container of mac n cheese (that got sauce all over it) and brought new ones of each and wrapped them in plastic bags.

I had to turn my bag upside down and gave her all of the ruined items (gloves, pack of gum and other odds and ends) for her to throw away and I said thanks so much for helping me and she said I know this is an expensive bag you're taking this much better than I would, I'd be crying.

Customer service like this means the world to me, you don't experience it as much as you should. It's just so nice when something shitty happens to you and someone agrees that it is shitty, recognizes why you're upset and makes a difference by helping.

Thank you Whole Foods employee and after cleaning it more and putting outside to dry for a few hours my handbag is good as it was before and no longer reeks of sesame sauce.

Washington ST is Disgusting

Feels like I’m dodging trash every morning walking to the PATH. The sanitation department needs to better, and it would be nice if we had a mayor who opened up her eyes while walking her gross dog

Dead Birds

What’s with all the dead birds around Hoboken lately? Is this normal for this time of year?

I feel like I’ve never seen so many on the sidewalks as I have the last few weeks. It’s been a mix of both adult and baby birds.
