Is it supoosed to touch?

So been using my flair 58 for a year and I have 2 problems. Sometimes depending on grind, water will spurt from the top. Also seems like that part of the pendulum is starting to melt. Is it normal wear? Or was it never supoosed to touch de interior wall of the chamber?

Do looks really matter?

Hello everyone! This is a question from an orchestra violinist to all the luthieres out there. I'll be getting a violin made (for the first time) and I already found someone who's work I really like. His violins are around $4,800 USD ($85,000 mexican pesos). So the next step involves the question.

How much does the violin mold / design affect the final product's sound over the ability of the maker?

Obviously, copying or making an inspired violin from a Stradivari won't make it sound like one exactly but I wanted to know how much freed does this give me of choosing a violin I actually like and that I can expect a descent tonal quality or even better: an expected tonal characteristic.

Thanks everyone!

Please help identifying this copy!

Hello everyone! I bought this Maginni copy about 7 years ago in Mexico and we calculate it to be a little bit above 80 years old. The label is quite worn but it reads:

"Giovan paulo Maginni brefcia 1964"

Hope you guys can help me find what violin it was based on!

Help choosing orchestra strings

Hello everyone, so I want to start getting better strings for my string orchestra gig and I have a very warm violin that has been running Violinos for a couple months now. I really like the tone but it's lacking a lot of projection on the E string, G string sounds kind of sluggish and articulation across all strings feels slow on the response. I've been thinking either Peter Infeld with the Platinum or Vision Titanium Solo but would love to hear your experience in making a full bodied violin sound springier!
