Are Michelin CC2s worth the $1,300 price tag, or are Kumho Crugens HP71 enough for plowed roads? (VW Atlas Cross AWD)

Hey everyone!

I moved to Detroit from down south a couple of winters ago, so I’m still fairly new to driving in serious snow. I drive a VW Atlas Cross AWD, and my current Kumho Crugen HP71s are finally due for a replacement.

I’m currently shopping around and facing a big price gap debate:

The Michelin CrossClimate 2s: Sitting at around $1,300 all-in. Everyone on Reddit seems to swear by these as the holy grail of all-weather tires.

Replacement Kumho Crugen HP71s: Sitting at around $650, which saves me roughly $650.

My Situation:

I primarily work from home, so I’m not forced to commute in the middle of unplowed 6 AM blizzards. Most of my winter driving consists of running errands, grocery trips, and general local driving once the plows have at least made a pass.

My Questions:

For drivers in Metro Detroit: Are the Kumhos "good enough" on mostly plowed/slushy roads with AWD, or will I immediately regret saving the $600 the first time I hit a patch of black ice or unplowed side streets?

Is the CC2 splurge worth it regardless? Do they actually live up to the hype and peace of mind for someone with limited snow-driving experience?

Is there a solid middle-ground tire? Something that bridges the gap between the budget Kumhos and the top-tier CC2s—like a Falken Aklimate, Bridgestone WeatherPeak, Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady, or Pirelli WeatherActive—that gives me true All-Weather (3PMSF rated) traction without breaking $1,300?

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from anyone driving a midsize/large AWD SUV in Michigan winters! Thanks in advance.

Frustrated with my 2024 Atlas Cross Sport (AWD) – Cooling system issues, recurring electrical glitches, and more.

Looking for some advice or similar experiences from the community. I’m starting to reach my breaking point with my 2024 Atlas. It’s supposed to be a premium family vehicle, but I’m spending way too much time at the dealership.

Here is the laundry list of issues I’ve been dealing with:

Coolant Leak (Recurring): My radiator was replaced under warranty just 3 months ago. I topped it off back then, and now the reservoir is back down to the "MIN" line. I’ve already escalated this with VW Corporate and have an appointment at the service center to look at it again. Could this be a failing water pump or a head gasket issue? Or is there something else common on the 2024 models?

Infotainment Glitches: The screen stays on long after the car is off/doors are shut and then powers down. When I start the car again, the screen is dead and won’t turn on. The only workaround is letting the car sit completely off for 10+ minutes. I’ve been to the dealership 3 times for this; they keep "updating the system," but the issue persists.

Seat Belt/Sensor Issues: Had to have the seat belt assembly replaced because the sensors were constantly throwing errors.

Premature Tire Wear: I’m at 27k miles. I recently realized my tires were never rotated during my "complimentary" maintenance visits. I know I should have double-checked, but as someone newer to car ownership, I trusted the dealer to follow their own maintenance schedule. Now I’m looking at premature uneven wear.

I’m exhausted by the constant trips to the shop. Has anyone else experienced these specific cooling or infotainment issues on the 2024s?

Besides escalating with Corporate, what else can I be doing to ensure these are actually fixed and not just "reset" by the dealer? Should I press them for extended warranty? advice on how to handle the dealer regarding the missed tire rotations/tire wear?

Appreciate any insight!

Frontier Airlines: A Masterclass in How to Ruin Travel

I’m currently sitting at the gate waiting to board my 3rd flight, and honestly, I’ve hit my breaking point with Frontier. I wanted to share this to save others the headache or at least set expectations for what "service" looks like with this airline.

My trip so far has been a nightmare:

Flight 1 (Detroit to CA): Delayed at the Denver stopover for an hour. To make matters worse, the gate changed at Denver without a single notification. No text, no email, no app update—it was only announced at the gate, and if I hadn't been standing there, I would have been left behind.

Flight 2 (CA to Denver): Delayed by over an hour. The kicker? Even after the scheduled takeoff time had passed, the app still claimed we were "on time," despite the fact that there wasn’t even a plane in sight at the gate. The lack of transparency is mind-boggling.

The Cabin Experience: On one of these legs, the cabin temperature was sweltering. It was so hot that passengers were visibly struggling, and I overheard several people saying they were actually having trouble breathing. It felt unsafe and completely uncared for.

Flight 3 (Detroit to Dallas): You guessed it—already delayed by another hour.

I’ve flown budget before, but this is a different level of incompetence. It feels like a total lack of communication, a broken app, and a complete disregard for passenger comfort and safety.

Frontier, you seriously need to do better.
