Just finished reading The King in Yellow
Around 10 minutes ago, I finished the first 4 tales from The King in Yellow by Chambers. I really liked them, specially The Yellow Sign and The Mask. But I'm a little underwhelmed, don't get me wrong, I'm not disappointed, but I feel like I know nothing about Carcosa, Cassilda, the mystery of Hades, and the King in Yellow, all we get from the Chambers tales are just glimpses of the cursed tale.
And I get that this is intended, cause telling you the whole tale would ruin the horror of the cursed book that everyone who reads it gets mad crazy and have a dark urge to kill (bg3) but I can't help myself to feel ok with it, I wanted more about the tale and the King.
It's like, the book gives us this entry to the tale:
"Let the red dawn surmise
What we shall do,
When this blue starlight dies
And all is through"
And then tells us absolutely nothing about what they did. I know that one of the pillars of cosmic horror is "don't tell everything about the entity cause it will stop being scary" and I haven't read a lot of cosmic horror, I have only read The Call of Cthulhu and The Thing on the Doorstep, but The King in Yellow is the first cosmic horror book that makes me feel like I know absolutely nothing after finishing the book.
