Movies where the existence of a monster feels almost absurd to the people?

Real specific, but many of the monster-themed movies I've watched show the monster, people being scared of it, and then it's kind of normalized for existing. I want to see something where people almost go insane that something almost fictional exists in the world.

Standards with lots of added passing chords?

I am trying to add in passing chords to my chord melodies and comping, but they don't feel cohesive enough. I try 2-5's and tritone subs with voice leading drop2 voicings, but they don't seem to mesh well.

I feel like I'm taking a very theoretical approach because not every chord needs to have passing chords, and the melody also dictates what would fit well.

I have tried to see what Joe Pass does, but I honestly get a little overwhelmed.

Any introductive pieces that would be good learning material?
