Hello! I hope I used the right flare. I’m autistic 22f, and sometimes I struggle to explain to my boyfriend WHY I need things a certain way. Like a very minor example off the top of my head is that if I’m sitting on the bed I need the bed made and the blankets flat, it makes me feel less anxious. But when he asks me why I do stuff like that, I hate just responding “because I’m autistic, I like things a certain way” because that almost feels like an excuse sometimes, and I don’t want to use it as an excuse, because I was always taught that’s bad to do, and sometimes my boyfriend gets frustrated when I can’t explain it. so how do I explain why I like things a certain way, or DONT like things a certain way (textures, noises, feelings) without automatically saying it’s because of my autism?
