Child with LPR
I suspect my 9 year old may have lpr. He’s had throat clearing mainly after meals for a few weeks now and it just seemed to come on all of the sudden. He did have reflux as a baby and toddler though and was on ranitidine back then but we weaned him off of meds since we thought he outgrew it. Off and on after that he’s had random times where he’ll eat something and get acid reflux and I’ve had to give him something to help but then it would go away. I’m not sure where the throat clearing is coming from or why but I’ve had it myself the last few years too and it just seems weird that now my young son has the same symptoms. His doctor recommended he try Nexium to see if it helps for a few weeks and we’re in week 3 with the same symptoms. I read that PPI’s don’t generally help with LPR if that’s in fact what it is though so I’m just lost. I know the next step is probably an ENT but I’m scared of what they may say. I have horrible anxiety myself, which is another story, and my son also has anxiety and sensory issues. I guess I’m mostly just wanting to know if anyone else has a child going through something similar or if they’ve found anything to help with the throat clearing? Oh I forgot to mention he also has ARFID so his diet is very limited and he does have safe foods that he’ll eat.
