Hi all,

Decision Day is tomorrow, and I'm really really conflicted for my decisions. I was accepted to UCSD for Business Economics OOS, and am in Sixth College. I was also accepted to UIUC in-state, for the undergraduate Gies Program. I plan on attending law school afterwards! I would love to know your perspective as current Tritons!

Pros of UCSD:

- Location (sunny weather, and in an amazing spot for Cali connections!)

- Ranking (3rd best public school in the US)

- It's something completely new, and it has amazing opportunities for Business Econ and Poli Sci, which is what I want to major in.

- Research opportunities!!

- I received the Triton OOS Scholarship for 20,000 a year, making my COA about 64k a year

- I fell in LOVE with the campus lol

- Feels like starting a new experience, not just starting college, especially with its proximity to the city!

Cons:

- Lack of alumni network

- Grade deflation/issues keeping a high gpa due to the quarter system

- Socially dead rumors (compared to UIUC)

- Less support career/internship wise

- Distance from home 😞

- lack of school spirit (and football team!)

Pros of UIUC:

- Alumni network throughout the Illinois area

- Cheaper COA (about 43k a year)

- Easier to achieve a higher GPA and better internship abilities

- Closer to home

- More social life and school spirit!

- It's the dream college experience! everyone ik absolutely LOVES it over there (and my parents want me to go here lol)

Cons:

- It's in the cornfields and horrible weather

- I'm not sure if I completely want to go down the business route, and may switch to poly-sci, which UCSD is better for

- Less ability for research, and may be harder to obtain research positions

- No scholarships or honors

- Small city

I know it seems like the obvious answer would be UIUC, but I'm really conflicted because I would love to attend UCSD. We can afford to pay the difference, but I just don't know. Internally, however irrationally this seems, UIUC just feels like I'm settling for some reason, and I'm worried I would always have that regret in the back of my mind, but likewise if I choose ucsd lmao. I wouldn't mind UIUC at all bc it's an amazing school, I just really like UCSD. If you would be able to help or maybe get me to snap out of it, I would really appreciate it (especially as current UCSD students!!)
