ION 10 minute Root Cover is not good🥲

Anyone else had better luck with this? I already had three customers come back to the store looking for another dye, because the new ION root cover dye didn't do them any justice. It also stains the scalp a lot, but it doesn’t stick on to the actual gray.

Customers who complain about never having rewards in their account

How do you nicely deal with customers who constantly complain about having no rewards? They always swear up and down that they “spend so much money here,” or “that they come here all the time.” But when you check their history, their last purchase was a single $18 item four months ago.

Halloween is right around the corner

Welp, only 105 days til October 31st. Get ready for another year of people calling the store on Halloween, or literally the day before, asking if we sell fake blood, colored contacts, or face paint. For anyone who’d like to know in advance, no, we don’t carry any of those.

Friendly reminder to customers: We do not need to hear your TMI overshares

The absolute lack of filters in retail never ceases to amaze me. Today, a customer asked me for hair removal cream. I showed her our selection, and she grabbed a bottle of Nair and casually announced, "I can even use this to remove the hairs on my coochie!" The customer waiting behind her looked like they wanted to dissolve into the floor from secondhand embarrassment. I just don't know how to react to these things anymore. 🫠

Instacart, Doordash, and Uber male shoppers.

Honestly, at first I thought people on TikTok were just overreacting about having a male delivery shopper assigned to do their orders. But I was totally wrong. I’ve seen it firsthand now, and I completely get it. I’m NOT talking about all of them. I’ve had very few who come in, do their thing, and actually find the products on their own. And if the store is dead, I really don't mind stepping in to help them out. But when we are busy, that’s when the annoying ones decide to show up. They basically want you to do the shopping for them. Instead of doing the simplest thing, like asking what aisle a product is in so they can go find it, or just looking around for it, while I finish helping other people, these dudes will literally just stand there in la-la land. They will stare straight into your soul and wait until you are free to help them. Like, the whole time you were standing there watching me, you could have been looking for the items yourself. It is so frustrating. Today, out of all days, my store was surprisingly really busy. I had a shopper come in, and I see him all confused as I’m ringing some people up. I ask him from the register if he’s looking for anything. He shows me a picture of the item, and I tell him which aisle, and what side it’s on. This motherfucker literally stepped into the aisle for a few seconds, and yells “ma’am I can’t find it, I’ll just wait for you to finish.” HELLO??? I LITERALLY SAW YOU THROUGH OUR MIRRORS YOU DIDN’T EVEN TRY???

Customers who make a mess

I just know your house is absolutely MUSTY, if you’re the type of customer that just grabs a product and throws it wherever, when the actual spot where it belongs was literally right there. OR you can just hand it to me and i’ll put it back for you. Oh, and don't even get me started on the ones who leave trash around the store shelves, instead of asking if we have a trash can somewhere to throw it away.

Customer: “Do you guys carry this here?” Me: “No, unfortunately we don’t carry anything like that here” Customer after I said that:

I hate when customers do this. If I tell you we don’t have what you’re looking for, and there’s no backup option, why are you just standing there staring at me like this? Like… it’s not going to fall out of the sky or magically appear out of thin air either😭

Why do customers feel like they need an explanation for EVERYTHING

Why do customers always demand to know WHY we don't have change for a $100 bill? It’s either the first transaction of the day, their total is barely $20, or literally every previous customer used a card. Where do they think the change magically comes from? Carry smaller bills or use a card, it's not that hard. Or when a customer comes in looking for a specific brand or product, and demands to know WHY we don't carry it. Like, I don’t know??? I just work here. I'm a store associate, not corporate, and I don't control the supply chain or manufacture the products. Oh, and last but not least, my holy grail. When we are literally closed, the doors are locked, and they knock asking to come in ”really quick for just one thing.“ Then they demand to know WHY we won't let them. Uhhhh because the registers and store are closed, it’s company policy, and I actually have a life and want to go home? The world doesn't revolve around your shopping emergency. Maybe manage your time better next time, and come in earlier.

Survey on Payroll

Please, whoever is taking this survey. DO NOT HOLD BACK. Ive complained about this in the past, and I still am. Make them take away demand for Sundays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This will make our lives 10 times easier when doing schedules.

ION Smooth shampoo

Is anyone else’s store out of this shampoo as well? My entire district has 0 in stock. I have like 6 customers who religiously buy that shampoo, and they’re literally about to lose their marbles. 3 of them already told me that as soon as we get them back in stock, they‘re buying out all the ones we have. Can’t wait to see how that goes…

Tea from a customer today

A customer came into my store today with her soon-to-be ex-husband. She wanted to dye her hair as dark as possible and asked me for help.

Her husband immediately started negging her, saying, "Your hair looked way nicer when it was blonde, dark hair makes you look older" and laughed. She snapped back, "Well, go find yourself a blondie then, because I’m not frying my hair again for you."

Then she asked me for a hydrating hair care line, so I showed her our Macadamia brand. This dude literally yells, “$26 A BOTTLE???” She replied, “Are you the one paying for it? Didn’t think so.” He finally got fed up and walked outside to wait.

When she got to the register, she apologized and said, “Between you and me, I’m divorcing him pretty soon.” She started venting about how she’s put up with his crap for 16 years. Turns out, he manipulated her into bleaching her hair at a salon because he "likes blondes." He paid the very first time for her to get it done, but made her pay for all the maintenance and treatments herself, afterwards. She expressed how the only good thing that came out of their marriage was their two kids, who she said are the absolute light of her life.

Funny enough, she also caught him cheating last year, and the other woman wasn't even blonde. She had pitch black hair. On top of that, he makes good money but refuses to even pay for dates.

She bragged that she hired a great lawyer and is going to demolish him for child support. Honestly, good for her. I normally don’t get involved in a customer’s personal life like this, but honestly, I wish her the best of luck.

Complicating customer

Genuinely, what is the point of asking me anything if you’re just not going to listen. A lady with level 10 blonde hair, came in saying “when I bleach my roots, they turn orange. What kind of hair dye do you recommend that’s white and can tone the orange?” Mind you she said WHITE. I proceed to tell her that if her roots bleach orange like she said they do, she either needs to do another round of bleach till she gets to a level 9 at most and tone, or take a darker shade with an ash base to somewhat help with the orange and cover it. She proceeded to say “I don’t want anything darker than what I have. If I bleach my hair more than once then it’ll get fried. I want my hair as white as possible and nothing with ash or anything that’s cool blonde. Because I hate tones that look silver. I want a white color.” I proceed to respond with “well if your roots turn orange after bleaching them, then your best bet is to re touch it with bleach again till it gets to a level 9, and tone it using a Snow Cap toner because it’s the closest shade that we have to a white.” She gets pissed and tells me to show her all our white hair dyes and I told her THAT THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A WHITE HAIR DYE (from what I know.) I showed her ALL our platinum shades, high lifts, toners, and really light blondes, and she proceeded to say that they were either too silver or too yellow compared to what she was looking for. She didn’t want to take the Snow Cap toner either because she wanted something more permanent. I suggested her to speak to one of our LCOD and she goes “I came here to speak to someone in person for a reason. I don’t have time to go on my phone and wait for someone to attend to my needs. Clearly you’re not much help so i’m just gonna go.” LIKE GIRL WHAT????? You came in looking for a color that doesn’t even exist, I was straight forward with you on how you can achieve that sort of shade, you had a nasty attitude the whole time I was trying to help you, and you brushed off every single advice I tried to give you. Lord have mercy….

Removal question

I got my Nexplanon removed 4 days ago, the adhesive strips are a little itchy and I obviously can’t scratch that area. They’re somewhat peeling off but only the ends. Do I really have to wait for them to fall off or can I peel them off myself after the 5 days?

Horrible parents

The things I have seen while working here is insane. This genuinely put the cherry on top. Some lady left her newborn baby in the freaking car in the middle of a thunderstorm today, for a stupid hair dye. She stood by the door and handed me her card to pay for her stuff. On top of that she parked in the middle of the street, and all the cars had to honk at her to move. Who the hell would prioritize stupid shit like this over their own child???

WE DO NOT SELL PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS

Please…. if your skin is injured or has some sort of medical problem, go to your nearest CVS or schedule an appointment with your doctor. A beauty supply store should NOT be the first thing you go to. We are NOT doctors and we CANNOT diagnose whether you have a fungus or flesh eating bacteria on your skin. We do not carry ointments or medicine. The only closest thing we carry to anything pharmaceutical is medicated anti dandruff shampoo and oral supplements for hair growth.
