Can I work with a boot?

My doctor gave me a boot for an injury and I have to wear it for a few weeks. Do they tend to allow this to be worn at work. It’s one of the larger ones you tend to see with the Velcro straps. It’s not close toed though. I’m scheduled for those weeks and I want to be able to help out. I’m worried that if I can’t, they won’t want me working there anymore

I’m worried about asking my boss and letting them down. Sometimes we’re short workers these days and I’d rather go in without the boot than say I need it and leave them without help

One of our deli workers works at Dunkin, & brought us a box of free donuts that were about to get thrown out. We’re all happy tonight.

Why is the Publix Reddit the most negative Reddit group?

Literally every other post is filled with what’s wrong with the company or why they hate company. I mean if you hate the company that much, you have the choice to just leave or get a new job. Plus, you don’t have to shop at Publix if it’s too expensive, that’s also another choice.

I've had it with toddlers throwing things at me!!

I've dealt with a lot at my publix, our customers are real characters to say the least. Today I was at self checkout - yippie everyone's favorite - & a mother came through with one of those racecar carts & a toddler. The cart was full to the brim (as they often are).

The mom immediately goes to put a video on the phone to give to the toddler, they struggle a bit & she gives the phone to the toddler. The video must not have worked because the child PITCHED this phone at me. She looked directly at me & threw it as hard as she could, I know because when I stepped out of the way it hit the ground very hard & very loudly.

I pick up the phone, put it on the self checkout so she cannot chuck it at me again & say to the child, "please do not throw things at me". Her mom does they typical "oh my goodness, you better stop" routine (that does absolutely nothing btw). The child then proceeds to chuck multiple items at the drink cooler, I go to pick them up & put them in the cart - this was a mistake on my part because as soon as I put the plushie back in the cart & stepped back to my spot, the child immediately pitched the plushie at me. I put it on the self checkout machine & say nothing (What am I supposed to say? I already asked the child to stop & their mom clearly does not care).

At some point the child also threw a bunch of food & trash on the ground? I didn't catch it but there were pretzels everywhere. I picked them up so mom wouldn't run them over & make more of a mess than they already have. She left without another word to me, but she took her sweet time.

I'm used to kids screaming, crying, falling on the ground, the works. I'm not used to them THROWING things at me, at my job. I don't get paid enough to be dodging an iPhone that's been launched at me, full-speed, at 8AM. I'm sick of parents not doing ANYTHING & just letting their kids attack workers. I'm sick of being treated like I'm not a person with human feelings. I don't want to have things thrown at me, I don't care if it's your toddler, CONTROL THEM. YOU ARE THE PARENT; DO WHAT PARENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO?!

Having this with the others being not updated especially at a new store is incredibly inconvenient.

Publix bowl a thon

So we're doing the bowlathon for the special Olympics and every time I call somewhere or even go somewhere for sponsorships they all say no, whether it's small companies, big companies, public figures... And unfortunately I even have some places where they're like yeah we'll do it and they never do.. I really don't know what to do or how to get sponsorships any suggestions?

I just feel overwhelmed by all the no's and I'm trying really hard to find a yes... I want to make my store look good.. and I know everybody's going to have their opinions but I just need advice or leads or anything

Question About Scheduling.

Hello community, quick question, as a Full time do I need to have mandatory closing shifts? I have being scheduled opening and mid shift only the last 2 months by my manager making coworkers mad at me and all the time they ask why I don’t close. I tell them I have an open availability and is up to the manager… my schedule changes every 2 weeks and they have a set schedule, they have 2 days off on a row I don’t. They have a weekend day off I don’t… I’m always working Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I think they are mad because I got full time on a relatively short time, and some of them still waiting… And you don’t need to be a genius to guess why they don’t get FT….

Miss the reduced sugar orange sherbet

Yes, I’m sure it was pulled because it caused a lot of gas and bloating, but it was an amazing low calorie/low sugar dessert for us dieting folks.

Don't be lazy

Had a guy come in this morning and with how opening goes is there will be one register open then 30mins later another one will be open (we dont have self checkout)

The 2 registers are close to the customer service desk since there's only one person working it at that time, so there not allowed to leave the desk unless a cashier needs something. Which is why the only 2 registers open are closets to the desk

Had a guy come through one and ask why do you only have these 2 open and none down the other end? I had to walk all the way down here.

The cashier gave a reason, but I guess he didnt like the reason. I didn't really hear what happend after that, all I heard after was sorry for asking

Once he left we just secretly laughed at him behind his back. If you cant walk well then use one of the eletric carts

cs cleaning shifts

Context I’m a 19yo female who been working at publix since I was 17. I starkly remember when I was hired they told me that cleaning was a responsibility that everyone partakes in if you work in CS. They started training me to clean less than a month after I was hired but I started to notice as the months went by that this is not the case AT ALL. Both my CSM and ACSM have favorites (despite saying they don’t) and pick/choose who they train/scheduled to clean and don’t train/schedule to clean. There have been a multitude of people who have been hired/transferred to the store after me who aren’t even trained to clean but they have me and a cherry picked 5 other people who they make clean all week. I remember on friday’s being in high school and would have to come straight after school and work the 7-10:15 cleaning shift and then 11-3 day cleaning the day after. We even have CS staff cleaning sometimes but they refused to train new people to clean. They will take advantage of new hires and work them to bone and train them to clean but certain people who have been at my store for years/months never even get trained to clean let alone scheduled to do it. When I brought this up to my ACSM he tried to give me a bs answer and say he doesn’t have the hours to train people. Where is the logic in that when you have those same ppl cashiering and bagging every day?????? I don’t have a problem cleaning bc if I did I would just quit, I just heavily dislike the fact that its not a task “everyone” does even though it’s a shared responsibly amongst CS. I guess my question is this common at other stores and what should I do about this bc this shit is fucking ridiculous.

early morning call out

I am incredibly sick at the moment (like i can barely walk), and I thought I was gonna start feeling better today, but I do not. I'm almost certain I'm gonna feel worse tomorrow. I go in pretty early for me (I usually close) at 8:45 am, and we don't open until 7:00. Will there be someone there to pick up my call at around 6:00-6:45? Do I just call out for tomorrow today? Is it just the same as calling out the day of? please bear with me if none of this makes sense I have some crazy fever brain right now

this happened about a month ago. just now posting lol

For context I am 17. For probably 2 months straight now there’s been a complaint almost every single time I clock in about me from a manager. Funny enough though, instead of trying to meet with me or call me personally, I have to hear the complaint from the customer service desk person. Everyone says how hard of a worker I am EXCEPT the manager. Last night, the lady closing CO came up to me after I had already done 3 door and was like “did you to 3 door?? because there’s been complaints about it” and I was like “yeah I already told (person closing desk) that I did” then closing CO got an attitude with me and said “so if I check it’s actually gonna be filled??” I said “yes” and another coworker told me he could tell I was already getting frustrated lol, he was like what’s her problem. well the night goes on whatever. then closing desk person comes up to me and says “you need to clean 2,3 and sweep all of them and get the trash and go get carts” I tell him that I need to do my CBT(it was on the schedule) NOT TO MENTION ITS LIKE 8:30, WE CLOSE AT 9. and he goes “oh okay can you do these go backs” OMG. HOW MANY THINGS ARE YOU GONNA ASK ME TO DO. I do the go backs whatever, I start my CBT then as I’m doing my CBT they call me over the store intercom to customer service. omg. I go up there and they need help in frozen now. Great. I go help in frozen and a manager was helping but then she just walked away and never came back?? I had to empty shelves because we were getting repair work done on the freezers, I had 4 carts full of frozen items. I’m talking to the brim of the cart. I was so frustrated because I’ve been asked to do what, 5 different things in the last 10 minutes with no help. I go up to the desk and tell the guy closing, look. I’m gonna need you to pull someone from floor sweep because I literally will not be able to get all of that done, especially if the lot is bad. As I was emptying the freezers, a customer came up to me, “can I ask you a question” I felt so bad cause I felt like I said “yes” with an attitude, he looks at me and goes “you alright?” I said so softly “yeah.” At this point I’m already about to cry. Anyways he asks if we have something and I look it up for him, we don’t have it. He walks away. I take the carts to the big freezer in the back then I started feeling so guilty about giving him an attitude so I look up “(item he wanted) near me” I went and searched for that man, found him, told him who had it near us and apologized if I seemed rude to him, told him it’s bee a long day. “You weren’t being rude, but it’s good you can check yourself, I could tell it’s been a long day” my voice started shaking “yeah” then the waterworks came in. I literally turned my head and started crying, he couldn’t see my face but his son could, the man asked me where the orange juice is, I couldn’t even look at him or hardly talk and I said it’s in produce and pointed to it, his son said “ I hope you have a good rest of your night” I go to the back and start SOBBING. I am so overwhelmed. But work goes on. I go up front to start bagging again, the nice man was up there and he made a silly face at me to make me smile. I gave him a little half smile. The girl I’m bagging for as soon as I walked up could tell I had been crying and she said “he (closing desk) over stimulating you again” I just shaked my head yeah. I bag the stuff for the nice man and his son, his son says have a good night. I said it back with my voice literally shaking. I started crying again. Infront of customers. But I literally couldn’t hold my tears in, at this point it’s probably 9 cause SCO was turned off. I’m crying as I’m bagging. Finally we get the last customer, the girl I’m bagging for hugged me and I lost it. I started SOBBING. BAD. Then the guy closing desk comes up to me and says, “can you check the lot” I AM LITERALLY SOBBING AND HE ASKED ME THAT. I go on the lot, looked at it, walked back inside, just let him clear it. I go back inside,to the break room and the guy in there says “heyyy!” Then he seen my face. “What’s wrong??” I literally couldn’t say anything. Just shook my head. “You need a hug to feel better??.” No reply. He tells me he hopes I feel better and to drive home safe. I sobbed in that break room, walked out crying. The closing MIC didn’t say anything to me about me crying. No what’s wrong? No nothing. Not a concern. After she had left me to empty MULTIPLE freezers by myself.

I ended up talking to assistant manger about all of that and his response was (closing desk) is “still learning” and I was told I won’t find better than Publix.

How many hours does grocery get?

I’ve been working at Publix for almost 2 years now and this summer over been trying to get more hours. Last summer I would get decent hours and come in at 2pm but we recently got new managers and I’ve been coming in at 4-5 which isn’t amazing cause we also got 2 new full time closers who aren’t great causing me or the others who come in later to feel behind because the full timers don’t simple things like filling add or checking to make sure eggs and water are filled.

Are the 2 full timers taking up most the closing hours? I want to achieve 20+ hours while I’m on summer break (I’m in college rn) but the last 2 schedules have had 6hrs and 11hrs which isn’t cutting it with gas prices and prices of other things rn. I’m thinking of just quitting if they can’t give me at least 20hrs.
