Getting Out!

I’ve seen a few posts from people who successfully left Publix for other industries, so I’m hoping to get some advice.

My partner is currently an Assistant Grocery Manager and is ready to make a career change outside of retail. They have been with Publix for 10+ years, but hasn’t been promoted since becoming AGM. We’re trying to figure out what types of roles and industries would be a realistic fit and what job titles they should be searching for.

Ideally, they would like something remote or hybrid, but open to onsite for the right opportunity. We’re in Jacksonville.

For those of you who have made the jump from Publix/retail: What did you transition into, what job titles did you search for, and where did you find your new role?

Any advice on making the transition would be greatly appreciated!

Jeweler Recommendation

Looking for a place that does custom rings or redesigns. I want to create a custom engagement ring out of three rings passed down to me from my grandmother.

Any reputable and somewhat affordable places you would recommend? Preferably in St John’s county, but open to anywhere in the area.

Ring Redesign

Ring Redesign

Looking for some advice. For context, my mother was recently diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer and likely has less than a year with us. She told me today that if she could do anything in the time she has left, she would like to see my boyfriend and I get married. We have already discussed this, so it isn’t a crazy request. It just moves our timeline up.

The issue is that my only want when it came to a ring is for it to be designed from my grandmothers engagement ring and wedding bands (photos above), which were passed down to me several years ago. At a minimum, one would need to be resized if I didn’t redesign it. I’d rather create a new ring that uses all 3 of them. I’m not committed to any particular design, but would like to only use her original diamonds.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is this possible on such a tight timeline? We are thinking within the next 2-3 months.

  2. What would the estimated cost be?

  3. If anyone has suggestions of a jeweler in the Jacksonville, FL area, please drop them below. We are in St. John’s, but will go wherever.

Thanks in advance for any help. I will fulfill my mother’s dying wish with or without this ring, but figured I could ask to see if it’s possible.

Recommendations :)

Just moved to the area from out of state and am looking for recommendations in St. Johns County, especially around Julington Creek! I’m hoping to find:

Nail salon/tech: Looking for someone who does a great dip manicure and actually does the manicure part. 😅 I’ve been to too many places that just remove the old set, file the nails, and immediately apply the new dip. I used to go to a 1:1 nail tech and loved that experience, but I’m open to either an independent tech or a great salon. Bonus points if they have OPI dip powder!

Waxing: Preferably an independent studio rather than a chain like EWC. I know sugaring seems really popular here, but I’m specifically looking for a place that does a good Brazilian.

Dog groomer: I have a goldendoodle, so I’m looking for someone experienced with double coats and doodle grooming. He gets both a bath and haircut, and I’d love to avoid anyone who will scalp him. 🙃 We had a bad experience with Woof Gang in our previous city, but I’ve noticed there are several locations here, so I’d definitely be open to recommendations for a specific groomer there or elsewhere!

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Joint Account: NFCU?

I know this has been asked before but just wanted opinions on my specific situation. I am, admittedly, not super informed when it comes to the nuances of personal financing aside from the basics.

My partner and I recently bought a house together and want to set up a joint account for our bills (mortgage, utilities, etc). I’ve seen people say a credit union is better than a bank for things like this. I currently use Navy Federal Credit Union for one of my checking and saving accounts. Would that be our best option, or is there a better credit union/bank you would recommend?

Thanks in advance!

MCO Security

Have a Friday morning flight to Mexico at 7am in two weeks out of Terminal C in MCO. How early will I need to get through security? I will be checking a bag and I have TSA pre, but my partner doesn’t.

This isn’t my home airport so not sure what the lines look like that early in the morning! Thanks in advance for any guidance :)

Remote Verification Letter

In the final stages of buying a house and closing on June 1. I currently live in DC and work remotely, but will be relocating to SC because that’s where the house is.

Today, the lender asked for a remote verification letter to confirm that I’ll be able to keep my job when I move out of state. I didn’t think this would be an issue because when I spoke with the leadership at my job, they said verbally and in email that I would be able to continue supporting my project remotely. We also have offices all over the world, so I would be realigned to the closest SC office when I move (~2 hours away from the house).

When I asked about the letter, they said the company doesn’t issue official letters like that for remote work because we’re all technically “hybrid”, even though I’ve never gone into an office. I’m kind of at a loss for what to do.

The only other thing I can think of is asking for a letter stating that I would be realigned to an SC office. Would that be enough for the lender to have confirmation that I’m “hybrid” with the option of going to an SC office if necessary?

(I intend on asking the lender this, but wanted to get any feedback before I shoot myself in the foot by laying all my cards on the table and jeopardizing the loan).
