1892 Chester-hallmarked antique ring with old European cut diamonds

Got engaged July 28 under the full moon and I just had my engagement ring dated. It has Chester hallmarks (18ct crown, sword flanked by three wheatsheaves, date letter ‘I’) confirming it’s from 1892. Carved five-stone gallery setting with 5 Old European cut diamonds. 134 years old and still sparkling! + My dream wedding band stack

Edit: Thank you all for the sweet comments means a lot to me!!

My ring sucks. Do your research.

My fiancé proposed in early May with a ring from FeliceGals, and while the ring initially looked beautiful, the black gold band began showing signs of tarnishing in less than a week of normal wear. For an engagement ring at the price point, that was extremely disappointing and raised concerns about the quality and durability.

That said we started the process for an exchange to get white gold band instead of the original black gold and a slight size up while we were at it. Unfortunately, communication was painfully slow throughout the process. There were multiple occasions where emails went unanswered for days at a time while we were trying to resolve the issue. On one of the few occasions when my fiancé received a response after several days of waiting, it came shortly after he mentioned that he would be leaving a second negative review. That made the customer service feel reactive rather than genuinely helpful.

Another major red flag was the return address we were provided for the ring. After all the trouble we'd encounter so far we were curious and googled it. The address appeared to be a residential townhome rather than a businees storefront. Considering how much money he money he spent, it seemed shady.

To make matters even more frustrating, my fiancé spent over a week trying to get a simple answer about the return shipping costs before we could even send the first ring back.

After all of that waiting, we finally received the replacement ring (we were never notified it had been shipped) and unfortunately, it was even more disappointing than the first. After waiting all that time and dealing with such poor communication, opening the package only to find that the new center stone has a cloudy, artificial appearance was incredibly frustrating. Honestly, it looks more like someone's resin arts-and-crafts project than a quality gemstone. It looks nothing like what we expected from the product we purchased and falls far short of what I would consider appropriate for an engagement ring.

I held off writing my own review or doing anything about it because I was hoping I would eventually like the replacement ring and they only accept return until the 30 day mark anyways (before the propsal even happened.) I really tried to like the replacement, it just makes me feel super bummed instead.

The cake on top is they removed my fiancé's review from their site. It wasnt over the top or anything either, just honest. I'm questioning if its even worth it for me to post one.

My fiancé and I have discussed what little options we have. Suck it up vs pawning. But we know we won't get more than a fraction of our money back.

Advice is welcome. Mostly I just needed to get these feelings out. FeliceGals can suck it.

Chunky ring dream!!

Engaged after 7 years!! I’ve always been a super chunky ring girl, so I knew I wanted something a little different from a traditional engagement ring. I can’t stop staring at it

1.8 carat natural diamond. 5.25 ring size.

is my ring set correctly?

just got engaged and i thought my diamond looked kind of strange in the setting. i took it to get appraised today and the jeweler (different from the person who set the diamond) said it was done incorrectly. he said it should be set lower, but other than that the diamonds secure. i’m just looking for advice on what to do and a second opinion to confirm what the jeweler who did the appraisal said. thanks!

Been engaged for 6 months, still ogling at my ring every day like I got engaged yesterday

I get distracted by it at work 😭 Help!!!! Pls ignore my nails, I'm growing them out but they insist on breaking constantly.

Still in love with my pink diamond 🩷

I was super conflicted initially about committing to a coloured stone for my engagement ring but it's been months now and I still look at my ring in awe. I'm glad I went with a coloured stone in my favourite colour! Pictures are from when I first picked up the ring from the jeweler, during my engagement, and finally during my wedding. I also love how the diamond looks champagne-y in some lightings.

Bonus pic of my husband's band, which has the same engravings as my ring. 🩷

Thoughts on rings without center stone ?

My partner and I were looking for rings the other day just checking out jewellers and I've wanted a kind of nature inspired ring forever, I walked past this one in the window and just said oh I really like this and it was the only one I actually did like.

I said it would be cool to find a ring that looked like this on the sides and have a centre stone but I also just keep going back to it and wondering if I like it the way it is without a center stone but I'm worried I would regret not getting a more traditional looking ring.

I'm also worried its ugly and I just can't see that its ugly because I like it but it's objectively ugly I'm not sure I'm overthinking it please tell me your thoughts.

Update: Broken Tiffany’s engagement ring

Link to my original post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EngagementRings/s/wcciPAH2YZ

First of all THANK YOU all so much, you’ve been incredibly helpful thus far in this saga, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!

After some time to review Tiffany’s sent the following options; they are repeating that the damage is due to wear, but I maintain that a ring this expensive from this “reputable” of a brand should hold up to normal wear. I don’t lift weights, operate heavy machinery, spend time in pools, etc. An engagement ring is meant to be worn and I have worn 3 other rings every day for 10+ years that are not so much as misshapen, not including my wedding band which was worn on the same exact finger and is completely intact. Any thoughts or advise moving forward would be so appreciated again!

The ring is heavily worn and badly misshapen. All of the settings show significant wear, the halo has become flat, and the shank is heavily misshapen. There are also dents throughout the setting. Based on the condition of the ring, these issues are consistent with wear.

As discussed we have further reviewed with the management team and below are the two options we would like to offer:

Option 1: (Not recommended)
Service charge: $2,875 + Sales tax

We can repair the ring as best as possible. The above estimate entails to repair the break in one shoulder, repairing the crack in the other shoulder, replacing five melee diamonds (2 missing and 3 cracked) rebuilding the gallery, reshaping the ring, retipping the prongs of the center stone. The remaining worn metal will remain as is.

Option 2: (We were able to get the price reduced from $6,500.00 to $4,500.00)
Service charge: $4,500.00 + Sales tax

The above estimate is to remount the ring. A remount entails re-setting the new and existing diamonds into a new mounting of the same design. Please note , size is required. The original mounting with the melee diamonds will be returned to you.

Pink sapphire dream💖

Got engaged in May to the LOML at the top of the CN space needle in Toronto with this lil beauty 🥰

lil back story: so the girl I kind of replaced at my current job left to work at a jewelry shop a block away and from literally the day this ring hit their floor 2 years ago she’s been telling me she has the perfect ring for me and when my partner is ready to propose to go see her. For 2 years this ring didn’t sell, he had tried some other places but they weren’t quite what he was looking for (he’s very picky and particular) and he remembered I told him about my friend having a ring in the shop. He went to the shop and he says she gasped when he walked in and was immediately like “I know exactly why you’re here” , she showed him the ring it was just what he looking for 🥰 he said all the girls in the shop were so happy the ring finally sold and that they all came out to say bye to it and bless it 🥹

There were pinker rings but he says they looked more costume-y and didn’t sparkle. I’m a DJ and so having a sparkly ring was very important to him and me🥰 I don’t think the ring captures super well in photos 😕

I love her and I love how people are always gagged at a pink engagement ring 😜 we both like to break from convention whenever possible so I knew I didn’t want a diamond ring but I do wish it was a lil bigger… this is a 1.9 carat lab grown sapphire with 14 karat white gold and I feel like it looks kinda tiny on my finger? (Size 5.25) I feel like I’ve seen smaller rings on here look much bigger than mine… Idk what do you guys think?

3 CARATS 😭

He proposed on a sailboat in upstate New York 😭 old European cut repurposed ring, diamond is estimated to be from the 1920s.

Light champagne color diamond, OEC, 3CT on a size 6.5 finger.

Needs wedding ring recommendations

Hi lovely people! 💕💖

It’s finally my turn; I got my dream pear cut with pink halo. Obsessed and feels like a barbie

I would love some wedding bands recommendations, mine is high set so anything would sit flush but I am unsure whether I should get like a pave band, or a curved band. I was thinking something vintage and engraved but would love to see some of your pear stack!!

Engaged to my best friend

The first man I dated that was a friend before dating, and why didn't I try this method sooner 😂

We knew getting engaged was in our plans so I chose the jeweller and design, he chose the stones. Four pink sapphires, that look absolutely insane in the sunlight (second photo) no idea what the cuts or shapes are so please don't ask me any technical questions lmao, but the two end stones are basically triangles. I love the quirkiness of the design, the unevenness of it all. It's perfect 🥰

My antique Art Nouveau ring!!

14k poppy flower with a .7c OMC natural. I just wanted to show everyone, especially the girls that like unique and antique rings!!! I knew from the start I wanted my ring to be a little piece of history that no one else has and LORD this ring delivers that. Fiancé mad that I just oogle my ring now instead of him

u/justageal — 21 hours ago

I'm engaged!

I can't stop staring at all the details. He knows I like purple so he added amethyst details. I also mentioned liking floral/ leafy designs. The main stone is a round 2 carat diamond. I always said I didn't want him to spend alot of money on a ring but he went above and beyond!

I was curious though, what style setting is this?

Kite Set Asscher ✨

My dream ring 🥹

I have known I wanted an Asscher forever, but setting it this way made it feel so much more me, a little unusual while still feeling really classic.

Elizabeth Taylor and her incredible jewelry collection has always been a huge inspiration for me, so I wanted something with a little of that old Hollywood, more is more feeling.

The center is a 3.08ct Asscher set on the diagonal/kite-set in a tulip head.

The setting is the 14k yellow gold cathedral setting with 8 graduated oval diamonds (4 on each side), totaling about 0.55ct. (I have a size 5.5 ring finger)

I really need advice on what to do!

So long story short, me and my finance proposed to eachother at different times. When he proposed to me he bought the ring in picture 1 and 2. But as you can see the gold isn't the same as the ring next to it in picture 3 and 4.

This is probably because they're not the same, one is 14k gold and the other 18k. Unfortunately my finance can no longer return it so we can't change it to the same gold type.

It looks better in the pictures than in real life. Is there any way to colour the ring? Maybe apply something to make it more shiny since it's very mate? Any advice plz.

Thank you!
