My boat engine starts breaking up and popping at wide open throttle. You can hear it clearly in the video. Any ideas what could be causing this? Ignition, fuel delivery, or something else?

Also It can die sometimes on idle or when putting gear in. And it feels hard to get over 36kn, should do well over 40.

Hi everyone,

I have a 1987 MerCruiser 5.7L 260 HP with Alpha One. The distributor has a GM ignition module (marked 369 2J24) mounted on the side of the distributor, an external ignition coil, and a 2-wire pickup coil inside the distributor.

The distributor shaft has significant side-to-side play, while rotational play is minimal. The engine starts very easily, but it misfires, pops at idle, and runs poorly under load, so I suspect the distributor bushings are worn.

I'm trying to identify exactly which distributor I have.

• Does anyone recognize this distributor model?
• Is it an original Delco EST / Thunderbolt IV distributor, or an aftermarket unit?
• Can the bushings be purchased separately, or is a complete distributor the only realistic option?
• If I replace it, what is the correct replacement part number?
• Can it be replaced with another GM marine distributor, or even converted to a different distributor (for example a GM automotive HEI or another marine ignition system)?

Any part numbers, rebuild kits, or replacement recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting a squeaking/squealing noise from the engine at certain RPMs. It sounds like it might be coming from the alternator, but I'm not sure.
Engine: Mercruiser 5.7l v8 - 1987

Has anyone experienced something similar? What should I check first, and what would you recommend as the next step for troubleshooting? Any tips would be appreciated.

Har haft episoder med att halsen svullnar upp sedan slutet av mars (pollenperioden). Det har blivit värre nu när gräspollen dominerar. Jag kan inte gå ut. Sitter fast hemma med en luftrenare på fullt blås. Vet inte riktigt vad jag ska göra. Ögonen och näsa är helt ok, näsa är lite irriterad ibland. Äter loratodin men har inte gjort det mer än en vecka. Det svullnar upp i halsen så jag nästan får andnöd. Det kan variera väldigt mycket från dag till dag hur svullnaden är och ibland får jag attacker som sitter i ett par timmar och sedan blir helt ok. Har inte gått ut på tre dagar nu för jag vågar inte. Trots detta så svullnar halsen lite ändå. Antar att det kommer in lite pollen i lägenheten.

Vad ska jag göra? Någon annan som också sitter hemma på midsommar på grund av detta?
