Sasha 14, recently diagnosed.

My 14-year-old cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Am I doing everything I can for her?
Hi everyone. I just wanted to get some advice and maybe hear from people who have gone through something similar because I love this cat more than anything.
My sweet girl, Sasha, is 14 years old. About a month and a half ago she was diagnosed with diabetes after I noticed she had lost a lot of weight. She used to be around 18 pounds, and now she’s about 12 pounds. The vet said 12 pounds is actually her ideal weight because she had been overweight, but I still struggle with seeing such a dramatic change and wondering if her body had been suffering before we caught the diabetes.
Instead of insulin, my vet started her on Senvelgo. The first week was rough because she absolutely hated the taste and seemed to lose a little bit of her personality, but thankfully she’s adjusted and is acting much more like herself now.
Her progress has been really encouraging:
Initial ketones: 3.1
One week later: 1.7
Most recent visit: 0.5
Her glucose has apparently been well controlled the whole time, and my vet is happy enough with her progress that we don’t have to go back for another blood test for three months.
I also completely changed her diet. She used to eat kibble, and now she’s eating Fancy Feast Classic Pâté because I kept reading it’s one of the better low-carb, high-protein foods for diabetic cats. I play with her for about 10-15 minutes every day, and she’s surprisingly active for a 14-year-old. She’s also a very vocal black cat who “yodels” throughout the day, which has always just been part of her personality.
The only remaining issue is that she has two teeth that need to be extracted. My vet wanted to wait until her diabetes was controlled before doing anesthesia, which made sense. Now that she’s doing well, I’m shopping around because my current vet quoted me almost $2,000 for the dental procedure, and I’d like to find a hospital I feel more comfortable with while hopefully saving some money.
I guess my questions are:
Is there anything else I should be doing for a diabetic cat that’s doing well?
Are there any home glucose or ketone monitors that people actually recommend?
Is Fancy Feast Classic Pâté still considered one of the better options, or are there foods you’d recommend instead?
Is 10-15 minutes of play enough, or should I be doing more?
For anyone whose diabetic cat went under anesthesia for dental work, how did it go? That’s honestly the thing I’m most anxious about.
I’ve already spent a couple thousand dollars getting her diagnosed and stabilized, and I’d spend whatever I have to for her. I just want to make sure I’m giving her the best quality of life possible. The vet says she’s otherwise healthy, but I still worry constantly because she’s my baby.
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences or any advice you wish someone had given you when your cat was first diagnosed. ❤️

Am I sick?

I’m a 24-year-old woman, and I’ve had disturbing dreams for as long as I can remember. They’ve almost always been dark—getting raped, murdered, chased, or just generally evil and unsettling. It’s honestly pretty on brand for my dreams at this point.
Lately, though, I’ve started having incest dreams involving family members, and it’s making me feel physically sick.
The worst one was that I dreamed I slept with my father. In the dream I wasn’t resisting it—in fact, I enjoyed it, which is the part that has absolutely destroyed me. I woke up feeling disgusted, ashamed, and like I wanted to crawl out of my own skin.
For context, I don’t have the healthiest relationship with my parents or siblings, but we’re not constantly fighting either. We have our moments. I still live at home because I’m first-generation and it’s a cultural thing, plus my family leans on me emotionally and acts like they need me. I’ve wanted to move out, but it’s complicated.
I’ve never wanted anything like this in real life. The thought genuinely repulses me. That’s why the dream has me questioning myself so much. I know dreams can be weird, but this feels so disturbing that I can’t stop thinking about it.
Has anyone else experienced dreams like this? Did they end up meaning anything, or are they just random nightmares? I’m honestly looking for reassurance because I feel absolutely disgusted with myself.

14-year-old cat with diabetes (Senvelgo) and dental disease - feeling overwhelmed and looking for advice

Hi everyone,
I’m feeling really overwhelmed and could really use some advice from people who have gone through something similar.
My cat, Sasha, is turning 14. A couple of years ago she weighed around 18 pounds, and now she’s 12.5 pounds. Ironically, that’s what the vet always wanted her to weigh, but I can’t help feeling like she only got there because she was sick. Cats hide illness so well.
I started noticing that she was eating her dry food strangely. She would crack the kibble on the left side of her mouth, drop pieces back into the bowl, and even meow for me to come watch her eat. That just didn’t seem normal.
I come from a family that doesn’t really believe in spending a lot of money on pets because they think, “She’s just an animal.” But I love Sasha more than anything, so I took her to the vet and spent about $500 on bloodwork and a full workup.
We found out she has diabetes.
The vet is hoping she’s essentially the feline equivalent of Type 2 because she qualified for Senvelgo instead of needing insulin injections right away. Since then, I’ve already spent around $300 on the medication plus hundreds more on all the follow-up visits and ketone checks. I’m probably around $1,400 into everything already, and that’s before her dental procedure.
She’s been on Senvelgo for a little while now. The first five days were awful. She foamed at the mouth, drooled everywhere, and ran away whenever she saw the syringe. Thankfully, she’s adjusted and now swallows it much better.
The good news is her ketones have dropped from 3.1 to 1.7, which my vet is really happy about. She wants them below 1, but she said this is a big improvement and wants to continue monitoring her. Her blood glucose has also been looking much better.
My concern is that I’ve read so many mixed opinions online. Some people say Senvelgo completely changed their cat’s life and even led to remission. Others say it caused serious complications, and it’s making me anxious because I just want to make the right decision.
On top of all that, Sasha has a fractured tooth and a cavity. The vet believes she’s otherwise very healthy, but they won’t do the dental surgery until her diabetes is better controlled because anesthesia is riskier when blood sugar isn’t stable. We’ve switched her completely to wet food, and she’s eating much more comfortably now.
The dental procedure will cost around $2,000, and I’ve had people tell me it’s not worth putting a 14-year-old cat through anesthesia and extractions because “she won’t really use her teeth anyway.” Others tell me untreated dental disease can cause chronic pain and affect overall health.
My parents think I should stop all of this, let her live out whatever time she has left naturally, and not spend any more money because of her age. But if she can still have good quality years ahead of her, I want to give her that chance. I don’t want her suffering if it’s something I can reasonably help.
So I guess I’m looking for advice from people who’ve been through this.
Has anyone here had a cat on Senvelgo long-term? How did they do?
Did anyone’s cat go into remission?
If your senior cat needed dental extractions after getting diabetes under control, was it worth it?
Am I doing the right thing by continuing treatment, or am I putting her through too much?
Thank you so much for reading. I love this little cat more than words can say, and I just want to make the best decisions for her.

24F - Looking for honest glow-up advice (hair, makeup, style, etc.)

Hi everyone!
I’m a 24-year-old Syrian-Palestinian woman looking for some honest glow-up advice. I’m open to any constructive suggestions!
A few things about me:
I have naturally curly hair (second photo).
I haven’t had any fillers, Botox, or cosmetic surgery. Everything is natural, but I’m open to hearing what people think would suit me.
I’ve lost 35 pounds so far (200 → 165 lbs), and my doctor wants me to get down to around 135, so I’m still working on that.
My hair used to be much thicker, but I’ve had some health issues over the past couple of years that caused a lot of shedding. Iron supplements have helped quite a bit, but I’m always interested in hearing if anyone has found supplements or products that actually made a noticeable difference.
I’d love recommendations on:
Makeup (colors, techniques, brows, etc.)
Hairstyles or haircuts
Hair color (or if I should keep it natural)
Skincare
Glasses vs. contacts (I wear contacts)
Clothing styles
Anything else you think would elevate my look!
Please be honest but kind. I’m genuinely looking for ways to improve and appreciate any advice. Thank you!

quitting addiction (please help)

Hi everyone,

I’m a 24-year-old woman from a Middle Eastern family, and I’m struggling with quitting weed. I’m hoping to hear from people who have been through something similar.

I grew up in a very abusive environment. There was verbal, emotional, and physical abuse, along with a lot of manipulation and control. I was never really taught how to navigate life in a healthy way, and I started using weed heavily as a way to escape and dissociate from everything I was dealing with.

Things got even worse when I was diagnosed with cancer in high school. During that time, I leaned on weed even more because it felt like the only thing that could quiet my mind and help me cope.

The problem is that weed doesn’t even make me feel good anymore. It hasn’t for a long time. At this point, it feels more like a habit, an escape, or something I use when my PTSD, anxiety, depression, and trauma memories get overwhelming.

I’ve tried quitting multiple times over the last 10 years. The only time I was able to stop for a significant period was when I lived in Syria and simply didn’t have access to it. Now I’m back in Chicago, still living at home while trying to save money and make plans to move out. Unfortunately, weed is extremely accessible because my dad smokes. I don’t even have to buy it myself, and I constantly smell it in the house. It feels like I’m trying to quit while being surrounded by it every day.

Sometimes I feel frustrated with myself because I know I want to stop, but I also know that a lot of my smoking has been tied to surviving difficult circumstances and coping with trauma. It’s hard to separate the addiction from the reasons I started using in the first place.

Has anyone here quit while still living in the environment that contributed to the habit? How did you deal with the triggers, PTSD, depression, and constant access? I would really appreciate hearing from people who understand.

Thank you for reading.
