10 career rules I wish someone told me earlier — #9 hit me the hardest

10 career rules I wish someone told me earlier — #9 hit me the hardest

These 10 rules hit different when you’ve actually lived them.
Especially #3, #4 and #9.
Learned the hard way that excellence alone doesn’t protect you. Sometimes the biggest threat to your position isn’t your performance ,it’s someone else’s insecurity.
Anyone else feel like these rules should be taught in school?

I’m feeling completely blindsided right now. Just last month I was a key member of the team that helped us close a $5M USD contract — a huge win for the company. On top of that, I received excellent feedback from all my peers.
Yet right after this success, my boss placed me on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). I’m really struggling to understand how this makes sense and I’m looking for advice on how to handle it.
The only thing I can think of is that I have a poor relationship with one close coworker. He’s often mean to me, and the other day I finally told him to never talk to me like that again. He’s very close to our supervisor and has been at the company longer than I have. I’m wondering if this could be connected to the PIP.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation where you delivered strong results but still got put on a PIP? What did you do? Should I fight it, start looking for another job, or try to work through the PIP?
Any insight or advice would be really appreciated.
