A few days in Scotland to escape

Hello, I have a trip planned to fly into Edinburgh with my mom and then spend 10 days in Mull and the highlands.

And I’m having a bit of a breakdown at work and am debating seeing if I can change my ticket for an extra few days alone.

So, where would you go for a few days of sitting in an old pub, maybe some cool ruins or interesting history that is an easy train trip from Edinburgh.

I’m thinking of York, I’ve been there before and loved it. But I wondered about a hidden gem I might miss.

Thanks for any tips.

Watching phones in public

Why do people seem shocked that other people can hear their phones when watching tv or reels at a restaurant?!

I may not be able to understand it, but if it’s loud enough for you to follow then yeah, it’s loud enough for other people to hear.

Usually I get indignant assholes telling me to shut up, but sometimes it’s genuine shock “oh you can hear it?!”

Yeah. I’m at the next table, not another room.

8 nights in Scotland Advice

Hello all! Looking for some tips before I plan too much!

Flying in/out of Edinburgh in mid Sept. Probably going to spend two nights there (arrival is early in the morning so a jet lagged day and a full day) but we’ve both been there before.

Key points for this trip is the highlands. I’ve only done the half day tour when I was there before. And I’d like to see it proper.

We have five nights, would you recommend one good central spot? Or two spots? I love the idea of the Cairngorms National Park, I’m a photographer and would love to see it. But would also love to see the Glenfiann Viaduct which is the other way.

Interests are photography- exploring nature and ruins and old castles. Nice meals, breweries, gin and afternoon tea.

Almost certainly going to do a rental car, but i had also thought about taking the train to Cairngorms first.

Thanks

International passport application

I was successful in my FBR and am now going for the passport. They want an original passport- but does anyone know if that passport has to still be valid?

I’d rather not let my current one go if I don’t have to. I’m going to try the customer hub again tomorrow but the time zone means I’m too late today.

South/eastern Ontario shoppers

Cute little kitchen shop called Zest in Picton, Ontario is having a sale on a lot of items, and not just old stuff and colours.

Small collection, not worth a long drive, but if you are in the area…

On a plane…

The person in the seat in front of me is wearing a mask. Sounds courteous? Except she keeps throwing her tissues under the seat.

So both gross for the poor staff who have to clean it up, and for me cause her tissues land on my bag.

I used the bag her blanket came in (also stuffed under the seat) to pick up a bunch of tissues. Threw the out. Came back to see more on the floor. Just asked her to stop throwing her tissues on my stuff.
