Paramount has a perfect path for revitalizing DC films with Zack Snyder, Chris McQuarrie, Henry Cavill, and Ben Affleck

Following the historic failure of Supergirl, and with the acquisition of Warner Brothers nearing completion, Paramount now has an incredible opportunity laid before them to revitalize DC films, using proposals and pitches that have been floating out there for years and have already been embraced by fans, rather than continuing with James Gunn's collapsing DC universe.

The first pitch they may be likely to look at would be Chris McQuarrie's proposal for a Man of Steel sequel with Henry Cavill. Skydance, who bought Paramount, produced all of the recent Mission: Impossible movies for Paramount, even before they took over the company. That means that the new Paramount owners already have a close relationship with M:I director Chris McQuarrie. McQuarrie last talked about this Superman proposal while promoting the latest Mission: Impossible film. He had not given up on it, and described it as sitting in a desk drawer just waiting for someone to make it. He mentioned it had a spectacular opening sequence that crystallized the essence of the Superman character. His pitch was conceived while working with Henry Cavill on M:I - Fallout, so it seems likely he would still want Cavill to play Superman in this movie.

Once Cavill returns as Superman, that triggers a domino effect that could result in the return of the rest of the Snyderverse cast, which could then revive some of the other unmade pitches for Snyderverse movies. Paramount is likely to be a friendlier studio for Snyder and his DC films than Netflix would've been. Netflix Films has been run by Dan Lin for the last two years. Lin almost took the job of running DC Studios before James Gunn did. He likely had his own ideas for DC that he would've gone ahead with, rather than looking to bring back any actors and directors from past films. Also, the new Paramount appears to be carving out a spot as a politically incorrect studio, one that is willing to bring back creators from the "cancelled" list. If they will bring back people like Max Landis, who was on the blacklist over "MeToo" issues for 5 years, then they're not going to care about some of the random, politically charged criticism that Snyder has faced from "woke" outlets like Rolling Stone.

Another political angle is that Paramount has been very friendly to Israel. They would likely be happy to bring back Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, rather than recast the role. Even WB seems to have been dragging their feet on recasting her, because they know how well her first Wonder Woman film was received, one of the biggest DC film success stories of all time in combined critical reception and box office. Snyder also showed support for Israel by signing a petition early after the October 2023 attacks, which demanded the release of hostages by Hamas. On politically sensitive matters, Paramount, Snyder, and others in the Snyderverse orbit seem to be closely aligned.

Now, let's consider some of the potential DCEU projects that Paramount could fill their slate with, after breaking down the door to restoring the Snyderverse with a Cavill-led Man of Steel 2:

#Justice League 2 and 3 These are the white whale/holy grail of cancelled DCEU projects. There may be some tweaking necessary to make them fit into a full DC slate from Paramount, but the basic story of Darkseid's post-apocalyptic invasion of Earth, and the Justice League's quest to undo that, could certainly continue. These films have the potential to look spectacular, and be big tentpole releases. Darkseid alone as a villain is a big new hook that wasn't present in the theatrical Justice League. And you also have Batman and Joker together again, sharing scenes in a film, something that hasn't happened in a long time, and is always good for box office.

#Ben Affleck's solo Batman film Affleck could direct it or not, his choice. Paramount just better not be stupid enough to hire a director like Matt Reeves and then give him the right to fire Ben and completely blow up the consistency of the DC universe. Ben could bring in Gavin O'Connor to direct, who did both of his Accountant films. Affleck's Batman script sounded like more of a comic book-style Batman, still serious and dark, but with fantastical villains, which would help give it a fresher feel coming after Reeves' grounded, Nolan-esque approach. Deathstroke was the main antagonist, which, again, is a fresh villain to DC films, and a fan-favorite.

#Green Lantern Corps The hints/rumors around McQuarrie's Superman pitch was that Green Lantern would be involved. Basic guesswork suggests that McQuarrie's close pal Tom Cruise might play that role. The test pilot Hal Jordan is tailor-made for the star of Top Gun. And Tom Cruise in his first superhero film would generate huge buzz. Pair this with him mentoring a young John Stewart, and you have a diverse and charismatic cast with the potential for Top Gun-esque dogfight scenes. This would be a convincing big screen reboot for Green Lantern that would make the failed Ryan Reynolds film a distant memory.

#Wonder Woman 3 The return of Gal Gadot to the role. The next big Wonder Woman villain to go to would seem to be Circe. There would be good potential to cast a big-name actress in that role, like Ana de Armas or Angelina Jolie. Maybe bring back Patty Jenkins, with Snyder's team involved in producing and handling the stunts again, or find a new director. Because they will probably want a female director, and very few of them have experience directing action movies, this is really where the MCU production style would be best employed. The director handles the dialogue scenes, while a well-oiled machine creates the action and stunt sequences.

#Mad Love with Joker and Harley Quinn This would be different enough from the Joaquin Phoenix/Lady Gaga take on Joker and Harley that the existence of that one shouldn't matter. This would be a more comic and cartoon-accurate take. Joker and Harley together is by far the element that people most responded to in ALL THREE of the Harley-starring DCEU movies (Birds of Prey and the second Suicide Squad film were non-events in the culture partly because they lacked the Joker/Harley dynamic completely). Remove all the political correctness that led to the perversions and abuse in their relationship being left on the cutting room floor of the first Suicide Squad, and you have the edgy, gothic love story fans want and expect from this dastardly duo.

#David Ayer's Suicide Squad As part of the run-up to Mad Love, Ayer can finally release his uncut Suicide Squad. This will show us all the cut Joker and Harley footage, and help promote Mad Love's release.

#Shazam vs. Black Adam The movie that for some reason WB couldn't figure out how to make, but which is by far the most commercial way to do a movie from the world of Shazam. You could definitely involve Cavill's Superman in this in some capacity as well.

#Cyborg solo movie The character was well-received in Snyder's Justice League, and Hollywood is always looking to make more movies with black leads or others that expand on diversity. This is a character with name recognition based on the Teen Titans cartoon, so he has a chance to succeed in a solo venture. This could also be used to start introducing the Teen Titans, like BvS was used to introduce the Justice League.

And, while production on this slate is getting ramped up, we can get a nationwide theatrical release of Zack Snyder's Justice League. This can come out to help build buzz after the plan to restore the Snyderverse is announced.

Overall, Paramount has a big opportunity to successfully relaunch DC films with a group of big-name actors and directors that have huge followings with both DC and regular film fans. This slate focuses on the most well-known characters, which is necessary to draw audience attention to a new plan. But it offers many pathways to further expand on the DC universe and gradually go deeper into lesser known characters, once it proves successful. It also presents a fully unified universe, that isn't randomly missing Batman, Superman, or other A-list hero from it because of poor planning by the studio. This plan is a pathway to making DC films relevant, popular, and a growing force at the box office again.

Tornado Scene

I really don't understand why people shit on this scene, I get emotional watching it, being 42 years old son of a father who has spent his life providing and protecting his family, this scene hits me, Jonathan is so protective of his son, neither Clark nor Jonathan knew the full capabilities of Clark, in every interpretation movies/comics/series young Clark had barely knew what his potential is, on top of that, Jonathan is also unaware the level of his son's invincibility, it's not like he was running tests on him what could harm him or not, shooting bullets at him back at the farm, lightning him on fire, throwing him off the roof, all he knows that his son has some special capabilities and he survived a drowning buss crash once and rescued his teammates, when Jonathan first saw the tornado his first instinct was to protect his wife and son and he immediately tells Clark, "go to the overerpass" just like a normal father would do, he didn't know if a tornado would harm Clark or not, even when Clark went to get the dog, Jonathan told him "get your mom to the overpass" in the end Jonathan chose to sacrifice himself to protect his son's secret.

It serves as a pivotal moment for Clark's development, watching his father, this average man running to help and save people even a dog from the tornado while protecting his family, and giving his life trying to save others and to protect his son, so Clark would eventually would not waste his capabilities for personal gain, rather to serve and protect humanity

"Who asked for this?" – Disappointed DC fans turn on James Gunn's DCU as Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd TV show is greenlit over core JL heroes

From the DC_Cinematic post, "James Gunn confirms the Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd TV show and says it starts filming soon"

Classic_File**** >Nobody wants this instead of Batman , WW and Justice League.
> >Gunn should be fired asap if he doesn’t have plans for a JL movie soon . Actors age and we can’t wait forever.

kas**** >James Gunn was wrong pick to be head of the DCU, he clearly cherish projects on the underdogs… where are the movies on the seven?

Spirited_Balance**** >Fast tracking this over Wonder Woman and Batman is a great start to this universe! I hope we get a Batmite anthology series next!

playb**** >Is anyone else not feeling the start of the DCU with all these side characters instead of focusing on the main league members

bigdoon**** >A Jimmy Olsen/ Grodd show before any mention of Batman and a host of others. Come on man

Street-Common-***** >Random to make a show about this

Skwidman**** >Oh Jesus dude. I’m kinda getting sick of Gunn. He only cares about characters no one cares about. I think he thinks that makes him cultured but really he’s just burying the DC universe again. Jimmy Olson before fuckin batman? Really? Are we really doing this? Gunn, figure it out man, this universe is sloppy b-list characters with a Superman cameo at this point.

Cautious_Mission**** >Bro who came up with this idea like seriously a Jimmy Olsen show??? We’ve been asking for Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League for a long time now along with other projects people want but yet they said let’s make a Jimmy Olsen show LMFAO

S0th**** >You'd think we should be getting shows about super heroes and stuff but no, he's spending budget on side characters and stuff people didn't ask for, what are we getting next, Superman TV show but with just Clark Kent's story? 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

hulam**** >another flop

Ok_Diver**** >Why does Jimmy need a show? And why are all the girls crazy about him? It doesn’t compute.

Kobella**** >More Gunn Gooner slop. Who asked for this?

Public-Tangelo**** >This is the absolute dumbest shit.. More bullshit coming out of the DCU.. First, that trash ass weak Superman movie he put out that we have to suffer a sequel to, dropped the ball with Peacemaker.. Lanterns doesn’t even look Green Lantern related > >Get James Gunn tf outta here

KieranFl**** >Uh… I don’t really care if it’s your favourite project. You said The Flash was the greatest superhero movie ever made. You are the big cheese, any positive press you say is just marketing. > >What I would love, LOVE, would be some concrete motion on the Batman project and the Wonder Woman project. Should be your main foundations for your universe, instead we have gotten Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, Supergirl in space, Clarance, and now Grodd and Olsen? Who are these projects actually for? > >Funny thing is, I’ve enjoyed the DC projects so far. But that’s it, they just wash over me. We got Circe without Diana, now Grodd without Barry… this will wash over me too. > >I’m waiting for that moment where I’m going to “get” it, get the direction this is heading in. But so far, it feels like grasping at straws. Learn from the mistakes of Marvel. We need less projects, that are more focused on what matters. *Jimmy Olsen and the Telepathic Gorilla!* can only get you so far.

primal_sl**** >Wonder Woman fans remain starved. > >Paradise Lost announced 3 years ago. > >WW film still being written > >No animated series > >Canceled game

Comet**** >Am I the only one who feels that this DCU movies and shows are so random? I thought there is a plan to introduce the heroes and villains when DCU was first announced.

BangerSlap**** >Good lord.  This guy’s management style seems to be ‘throw massive amounts of shit at the wall and see what sticks’.

Jadedtrad**** >Absolutely nobody wants this in numbers that matter. > >WB has lost its mind spending probably $200M on this lmao.

soulw**** >Not every character needs a show man.,...they're gonna MCU this aren't they?...

M**** > Clayface, Supergirl, Creature Commandos, Lanterns and Jimmy Olsen/Gorilla Grodd content before an established Trinity. Sure. That bodes well for box office dominance.

rumbletumblecru**** >Everything's your favorite, huh, James?

Sugar_God_**** >Jimmy Olson show before batman, or other justice league members project. Yeak keep it up , another season of peacemaker.

bad_m**** >What the hell? So it's a Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grodd....team up show? WHY????

According_Slide_**** >This is the most random tandem that they could possibly think of.

pseudoinertobse**** >Like who asked for this? Can't wait for this to be a huge flop.

UniQue**** >I’m going to be honest… who wants this stuff this early in the universe…? It just doesn’t make any sense how they’re handling this universe.

squatOpot**** >I don't think James Gunn is cut out for this.

TheRugWar**** >I don’t really see the point of this show. Why are we getting this shit?

>>BangerSlap**** >>Because James Gunn is apparently insane. Guy has been head of DC Films for going on 4 years and the sum total product we’ve gotten is a Superman film, an animated show about D-List characters that nobody watched, the second season of a show that already existed under the previous regime, and a Superman movie.   Soon to be joined by a Supergirl film, a Clayface film, and another Superman film.  Oh, and a Lanterns show they’ve already fucked due to bad marketing.

stanislav**** >Certainly beats Creature Commandos in the rank of "stuff to skip". I'm guessing a Krypto and Friends show is next?

waitfor**** >Is this Marvel all over again with too much stuff ?

Dron**** >Wow I always dreamed of a Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd comedy show! > >I love comedy so much, so many sex jokes I can't wait.

Nube_Neg**** >"And it's one of my favorite projects" > >Ofc we're getting another peacemaker

comehereyoudevi**** >Can't wait for a show about Jim Gordons wife, or a prequel movie about lex luthors girlfriend. Thank god someone with a pulse on the fandom is in charge.

Nicholas Hoult's acting isn't very convincing it felt flat. He looks like he's reading from a teleprompter half the time. Jesse Eisenberg gave a more believable Lex performance and even with all the criticism his version received he never sounded like he was just reciting lines from a screen.

Say what you want about Jesse Eisenberg's Lex but at least he never came across as if he was just reading lines off a screen. His performance felt natural and believable he showed stronger acting skills than Hoult
