What do you think of Queen Gorgo’s storyline in 300?

Queen Gorgo’s storyline in 300 was not based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel. In the graphic novel, she only appeared in the farewell scene and said the “come back with your shield or on it” line. Her scenes in the movie showed how much she loved Sparta and her husband. The sacrifice she made and betrayal she suffered mirrored what Leonidas encountered at Thermopylae.

However, if you think about why Leonidas marched to Thermopylae, it seems unnecessary to have a storyline about Gorgo. Leonidas only took 300 because he knew it would be suicidal and his death would get the council to start the war with Persia. Even if Gorgo did not do what she did in an attempt to help Leonidas, Sparta would still likely send more men (just like what happened at the end of the movie) to avenge their king.

I have seen some people say that they are not fond of Gorgo’s storyline in 300 because it did not add much to the movie in terms of storytelling. I don’t mind seeing what happened to Gorgo while Leonidas was fighting for Sparta but do understand why some people don’t like it. What do y’all think?

Are Russell Crowe (Jor-El) and Sir Anthony Hopkins (Odin) the two best dadcasts in comic book films?

Both are highly respected actors taking on prestigious patriarch-style roles within their cinematic universe.

Anthony’s Odin takes on a much different approach than the hacky quip humor that later overtook the MCU.

If not Anthony or Russell, who you got?

Mysteries that the Snyderverse has left completely unresolved

1. How did Snyder plan to introduce the original Doomsday—the one created by Bertron—into his films?

The Doomsday that Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman faced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was merely a pale imitation created by Luthor. Yet look how all three struggled against him, with Superman even having to sacrifice his life to defeat this creature once and for all. This is merely the tip of the iceberg, as the original Doomsday created by Bertron is even more terrifying.

What made Bertron’s Doomsday so terrifying and feared was the fact that he was incapable of dying; more precisely, he would never die twice in the same way. Every time he was killed, his genetic material was rewritten to develop a specific immunity against whatever had killed him previously. In fact, it was this monster who shattered one of Krypton’s moons, Wegthor, years ago. In the classic comics, after being expelled from Krypton, he landed on the planet Bylan-5, killed Master Mayhem instantly, and fought Darkseid and Steppenwolf, forcing them to retreat to save their lives. Darkseid, not wanting his right to rule Apokolips to be called into question, forbade his uncle from telling anyone about this episode.

Zack Snyder has, by the way, confirmed that this Doomsday is still alive, wandering somewhere in space. I wonder to what extent he would have been introduced into the Snyderverse and how the Justice League would have managed to defeat such a monster once and for all.

2. What happened to Kara Zor-El and Dev-Em after Scout Ship 0344 crashed on Ellesmere Island in Canada 18,000 years ago?

Unlike in other adaptations, Kara is not Superman’s cousin, but one of his distant ancestors. During Kara and her crew’s journey away from Krypton to discover new planets to colonise, Dev-Em stowed away on their ship and took advantage of their sleep to murder the crew, leaving Kara as the sole survivor. Shortly after her ship crashed following her fight with Dev-Em, one of the two is seen emerging from it and heading into the blizzard.

When Clark visited the ship centuries later, he came across the pods containing the skeletons of the crew members, Kara’s being the only one open. When the Justice League entered the ship to access the Genesis Chamber in order to resurrect Clark, they came across that very same pod.

I wonder if there were ever plans to introduce Kara Zor-El into the film adaptations that never came to fruition. Her story might have allowed for the exploration of a little-known part of Krypton’s history. No one knows whether she is still alive or has ultimately died; what became of her and Dev-Em remains a complete mystery.

My review of The Flash: Speed of Fate (an insanely meticulous fan edit of the 2023 movie)

I have had the great privilege of watching The Flash: Speed of Fate by u/T-8-0-0 a reimagining and complete rework of the 2023 movie and… WOW! 🤯

The Flash: Speed of Fate is genuinely one of the most thoughtful reimaginings of a bad movie I’ve ever seen.

What makes this edit work isn’t just removing scenes… it’s understanding why the original film failed in the first place. The forced humour is stripped back, the tone is far more consistent, and for the first time the movie actually feels like it belongs in the same universe as Man of Steel, BvS, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The rescoring is honestly incredible throughout. Using Hans Zimmer tracks from Man of Steel and BvS in key moments adds real weight, hope, tragedy, and suspense to scenes that originally felt completely hollow and forgettable. Even small details, like adding proper Batmobile sound design to Batman’s Batcycle sequences, help restore a sense of power and presence that the theatrical version constantly undermined.

Most importantly, the characters are finally treated with respect.
Batman actually feels like Ben Affleck’s Batman again instead of a parody of him. The colour grading feels deliberate and cinematic instead of oversaturated for the sake of looking “fun.” A lot of the awful CGI moments that completely destroyed immersion in the theatrical cut have either been removed or reworked so the film can actually breathe emotionally without constantly collapsing into self-parody.

Obviously, no edit can completely erase the DNA of what was originally shot, and there are still rough edges here and there because of those limitations. But that almost makes the achievement more impressive.
This edit takes a film that I genuinely considered a disgrace to these characters and somehow transforms it into something meaningful, coherent, and actually worth sitting down and watching for two hours.

And unlike the theatrical ending, which felt pointless and forgettable, this version actually finds a way to tie the story back into the Snyderverse with purpose and emotional meaning.
You can feel the care behind every decision.

This is why I never had an issue with Superman dodging the tanker truck.

I always saw Superman dodging the truck as him being aware that he can't stop large vehicles that are thrown at him with so much strength.

I get it. Other times in every other media, Superman has caught and heavy objects in motion; but the filmmakers at the time were aiming at a more realistic approach when it came to the physics of Superman's powers.

If real physics were still applied here, the truck would've likely blown up even if Superman caught it, due to sudden momentum. Even if your truck has baffles, the liquid can still penetrate the tank due to strong sloshing. This is why tanker-truck driving is a very, very delicate task.

Man this looks like such a downgrade. How does he have less aura as a villain? Lobo looks badass in the comics. Sad to see them do Jason Momoa like this since he always wanted to play Lobo too. Snyder made Aquaman badass but Gunn can't even with an already cool character like Lobo.🤦

I hope he quits the DCU after this cause they are doing him dirty. The lobo makeup and costume just looks so bad and cheap. No wonder people are saying Supergirl costs only 100m to make.

"This couple-on my planet, they mean hope"

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were always firmly opposed to Lois Lane discovering Clark Kent’s identity as Superman, believing that the series would lose 75% of its appeal. Zack Snyder, for his part, has clearly proved the opposite.

In the classic versions, Lois has always ignored, or even despised, Clark, while being in love with Superman, unaware that the two are one and the same person, giving rise to the love triangle in which Clark is his own rival. As Superman, Clark always rebuffed Lois’s attempts to win his affection, wanting her to love not the hero, but the man behind him, and was always genuinely hurt when she ignored and looked down on him in everyday life. This trope constantly made Lois come across as a stupid and somewhat superficial woman, and Clark as someone dishonest.

The Snyderverse has definitely done justice to the character of Lois by approaching her relationship with Clark from a mature perspective. For Snyder, the idea that such an intelligent woman would be unable to make the connection between Clark and Superman is the height of idiocy. The way he has approached the storyline is truly the best, as Lois isn’t always a damsel in distress. From the outset, she was introduced as a seasoned investigative journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner. This implies that throughout her career, she has rubbed shoulders with powerful military figures, politicians and businessmen, some of whom were clearly cynical and corrupted. Some of them probably tried to impress her, to bribe her or to seduce her, without ever succeeding. Her official meeting with Clark at the Smallville cemetery changed everything. While investigating to track him down after he had saved her in Scout Ship 0344, Lois certainly expected to meet someone who, like all the others, would try to buy her off or get something from her. However, the reality turned out to be completely different; the man she was looking for turned out to be deeply vulnerable, living in deep solitude. Clark opened up completely to Lois and told her his story, without any embellishment, without any ulterior motives, and without any duplicity. Lois was so moved by what he had endured all his life that she gave up on what would have been the biggest scoop of her career.

If this encounter laid the foundations for the love Lois would later feel for Clark, it was the Kryptonian invasion led by General Zod that truly sparked that love. That love was put to the test in Batman vs Superman and in Justice League. In Batman vs Superman, Lois devoted herself body and soul to tracking down the mastermind behind the plot to tarnish Clark’s image and reputation; she was the first to realise that Lex Luthor was behind all these schemes (the incident in Nairomi, the manipulation of public opinion, the bombing of the Capitol, etc.). After Clark’s sacrifice to beat Doomsday, it was Lois who exposed the truth about Luthor, leading to his arrest and imprisonment. When Clark came back to life, it was Lois who brought him round to his senses whilst he was suffering from amnesia and was completely disoriented. In the Snyderverse, it is not Superman that Lois is in love with, but the man behind the hero, Clark Kent; she loves him so much that she would do anything for him. This clearly sets her apart from previous versions.

Before meeting Lois, Clark had certainly never considered any kind of romance with a woman, although he had had a brief crush on Lana Lang. He must surely have feared that his partner would be afraid of him and end up leaving him if she discovered his true nature, or that she might come to love him for superficial rather than genuine reasons. Lois acted differently; she loved him with a pure and deep love, fully aware of his true nature, which lends their relationship a lot of maturity.
