Challenge: Help us develop puzzles for our tape recorder horror game!

Hey r/HorrorGames and fellow horror fans!

We're developing On Tape << Rewind, a psychological horror game where you solve a mystery through cassette tapes and audio manipulation. You arrive at a physicist's abandoned cabin in the Arctic to uncover his fate - and obsession.

The core mechanics:

  • Play recordings on a dusty cassette recorder
  • Search the cabin for clues
  • Use analogue tools to manipulate audio frequencies and reveal hidden messages
  • Each tape is a story fragment (research logs, old broadcasts, medical journals, etc.)

Here's where we need your creativity: We're designing puzzles that leverage these mechanics, and we'd love puzzle ideas that feel fresh and leverage audio in ways players haven't seen before.

Some examples we're exploring:

  • Layered recordings where you need to isolate specific frequencies to hear a hidden voice
  • Tapes that play at wrong speeds or backwards
  • Audio "glitches" that contain clues when examined closely
  • Morse code or other encoding hidden in static

What would genuinely creep you out? What audio-based puzzle would make you feel like you're losing your mind trying to solve it?

We're in active development and planning to expand our puzzle suite - your ideas might end up in the game. Drop your thoughts below!
