How do you know good modern foils?

It's no secret that the quality of foiling has gone down dramatically over the years, at least for the cards you get in a pack.

I'm not expert but I've seen recent foil cards that were so dark that the non foil version looks leagues better.

But is that a fixed rule that depends on the card or just another element of luck, where some copies don't look as bad? And in general, are other treatments better in terms of quality? Like if I buy an etched or a surge foil I can be sure it will look good

How about artifact decks?

Hey everyone!

I'm trying to look for inspirations and test new things out, and artifacts are a type I often think about.

Noncreature spells are my favourites, but somehow I still haven't tried out a deck where the actual main focus are artifacts. I did play the jeskai edge of eternities precon, and that had a good amount of artifacts obviously, but the objective with it was still a creature payoff. You know, animate artifacts, use artifacts to produce creatures, artifact ramp, power up the spacecrafts so that they become artifacts and yada yada.

But there have to be more ways to play artifacts right? I mean make a deck where artifacts are both the base and the wincon.

I looked at [[Mica, Reader of Ruins]], and that is interesting, but the payoff are still sorceries and instants. In mono red, I'd rather go for the goblin storm [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]].

I like the idea of [[Weapons Manufacturing]], I wonder how many primarily artifact wincons are out there. Maybe also some artifact related removal spells?

This is likely the most beautiful card I've seen of mtg so far. Now I need more old foils for my pauper deck lol
