Looking at a 2016-2018 Wrangler as my first real car, realistic or bad idea for around $15k?
Hi! I’m looking into getting a Jeep Wrangler and wanted honest opinions from people who actually own one.
This would technically be my second car, but really my first car. I currently have a 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL that was a hand-me-down, but it’s starting to have issues, so I’m looking for something else.
My budget is around $15k, but I could possibly stretch a little, but no more than $19k out the door. I don’t know a lot about cars yet, but I’ve been doing my research, and based on my budget, it seems like 2016 to 2018 Wranglers are the ones that fit best.
I’ve always loved the look of Jeep Wranglers. They remind me of a G-Wagon, which is my dream car. I’ve never actually driven in a Wrangler before, so I’m trying to be realistic before getting too attached.
I’ve heard they can be loud, rough, and not the smoothest daily drivers, but I honestly don’t think I’d mind that. I’ve also heard mixed opinions, some people love them and some people say not to buy one, so I wanted to ask actual Jeep owners.
I’m not super picky about color or interior. Leather would be nice, but fabric seats are fine too. I do like the look of the Sahara trim because it feels a little less sporty and more polished, but I know those can be more expensive. I want a hard top, and I’m open to either a 2-door or 4-door.
For my budget, is a Wrangler realistic? Are there certain years, trims, mileage ranges, or red flags I should look for or avoid? Any advice would be appreciated!
