PTBO Food Inspections - Aug 10–17, 2026

Busy week this week! Peterborough Public Health inspected 20 food premises with thirteen locations receiving infractions — eight had at least one critical infraction and five had non-critical infractions only. Seven inspections came back completely clean.

Here's what was found...

##🔴 Loon Ho — 871 Chemong Rd, Peterborough North

The worst result this week. This is the location's 4th critical infraction on record since September 2024. Critical: food-contact surfaces not cleaned and sanitized, food not protected from contamination, and potentially hazardous food held above 4°C. Non-critical: equipment not properly maintained, ventilation not maintained, pests not adequately controlled, no soap at the hand-washing station, and floors/walls/ceilings not kept clean and in good repair. The inspection record also lists "Fire Department" as an action taken, alongside "Report Reviewed - Action Required." No follow-up has been recorded yet.

##🔴 Jasmine Thai Cuisine — 195 Simcoe Street, Peterborough Central South

##🔴 La Mesita Restaurante — 247 George Street N, Peterborough Central South

First critical infraction on record for this location — but it took three visits in four days to clear. A required inspection on August 11 found the mechanical dishwasher not sanitizing utensils at the required chlorine concentration and temperature. Food handler education was provided on-site; no follow-up has been recorded yet.

##🔴 By The Bridge — 382 Water St, Peterborough Central North

This is the location's 5th critical infraction on record since September 2024. Inspectors found potentially hazardous food not held at or below 4°C. How to read this: "Critical" vs "non-critical" is Ontario's own regulatory risk tier, not a severity score we assign — critical findings relate directly to things that can make food unsafe (contamination, temperature control, hand hygiene); non-critical covers maintenance and paperwork requirements (equipment condition, signage, sanitizer test reagents) that health units still require but don't by themselves mean the food is unsafe. 🔴 = at least one critical infraction, 🟡 = non-critical only, 🟢 = zero infractions of any kind. This report lists every Peterborough inspection for the week, including clean ones — nothing is filtered out. Results reflect conditions at the time of the visit only — check the disclosure portal for a location's current placard/status.

PTBO Food Inspections - Aug 3–10, 2026

Trying something new this week where I'm also listing non-crticial infractions. Let me know if this is helpful or not. I also added more context about repeat offenders.

Peterborough Public Health inspected 8 food premises in Peterborough this week (August 3–10, 2026). Five locations received infractions — two had at least one critical infraction and three had non-critical infractions only. Three inspections came back completely clean.

Here's what was found...

##🔴 El Camino — 360 George St N #56, Peterborough Central South

Routine inspection, August 4 · 1 critical

This is the location's 5th critical infraction on record since September 2024. Inspectors found potentially hazardous food not held at or below 4°C; product on-site was seized and destroyed, and food handler education was provided. A follow-up inspection three days later (August 7) found the critical issue resolved, with one non-critical infraction remaining: inspection results not posted as the inspector had requested.

##🔴 Publican House Bar and Grill — 300 Charlotte Street, Peterborough Central South

Routine inspection, August 4 · 1 critical

This is the location's 5th critical infraction on record since September 2024 (although ownership has changed during that time), tied with El Camino. Inspectors found the mechanical dishwasher wasn't sanitizing utensils at the required chlorine concentration and temperature. No follow-up has been recorded yet.

##🟡 Aji Sai — 667 Reid St, Peterborough North

Follow-up inspection, August 5 · 0 critical, 1 non-critical

This is the follow-up to the 2 critical infractions we reported for Aji Sai in the July 27 – August 3 report. Both critical issues are now resolved. One non-critical infraction remains — no sanitizer test reagent on hand to check concentration.

##🟡 Pasta Shop — 165 Sherbrooke Street, Peterborough Central South

Routine inspection, August 4 · 0 critical, 1 non-critical

No sanitizer test reagent on hand to check concentration. No critical infractions found.

##🟡 Jack's Family Restaurant — 91 George St, Peterborough Central South

Routine inspection, August 4 · 0 critical, 1 non-critical

Floor covering not tight, smooth, and non-absorbent as required. Food handler education was provided on-site. No critical infractions found.

Three other Peterborough inspections this week — Jess's Kitchen (home catering), New Heights Community Child Care, and The Vine — came back with zero infractions of any kind.

How to read this: "Critical" vs "non-critical" is Ontario's own regulatory risk tier — critical findings relate directly to things that can make food unsafe (contamination, temperature control, hand hygiene); non-critical covers maintenance and paperwork requirements (equipment condition, signage, sanitizer test reagents) that health units still require but don't by themselves mean the food is unsafe. This report lists every infraction on record for the week, critical and non-critical, with nothing filtered out. Results reflect conditions at the time of the visit only — check the disclosure portal for a location's current placard/status, since issues found here may already be resolved.

Routine inspection, July 20 · 1 critical infraction

The worst result this week. Peterborough Food Inspections - Critical Infractions (July 13-20, 2026)

Here's what was found...

###🔴 Chaska — 441 George St N, Peterborough Central North###

Routine inspection, July 13 · 3 critical infractions

The worst result this week. Inspectors found food not being processed or handled in a safe manner, hot food not being held at the required minimum temperature of 60°C (meaning it was sitting in the danger zone where bacteria multiply), and hand-washing stations not accessible to staff. The food handling and hand-washing issues were corrected on the spot; the temperature issue was not and a follow-up is required. The location also received written orders for garbage not being collected, damaged floor surfaces, and dirty walls and floors.

###🔴 Chopsticks — 550 Lansdowne St W, Peterborough West###

Routine inspection, July 16 · 3 critical infractions

Inspectors found food not safe to eat, food in storage not protected from contamination, and hand-washing stations inadequately supplied. The hand-washing issue was corrected on the spot — but the temperature problem was not fixed during the initial inspection. A follow-up visit on July 17 found the cold storage issue still not in compliance. A second follow-up is likely.

Here's what was found...

🔴 Silver Bean Cafe — Millennium Walk, King & Water St, Peterborough Central South

Inspectors found that the dishwasher was not sanitizing at the required concentration — specifically, the chlorine solution wasn't reaching the minimum 100 parts per million needed to actually kill bacteria. They also found that ice was not being stored and handled in a sanitary manner, which counts as a food safety violation. Neither issue was corrected during the inspection, so written orders were issued for both and a follow-up is required.

Routine inspection, June 22 · 1 critical infraction

Hand-washing stations were found to be inadequate or not properly supplied. This was corrected on the spot before the inspector left.

Here's what was found...

🔴 Pizzaboro — 597 Monaghan Rd, Peterborough South

Complaint inspection, June 19 · 4 critical infractions The worst result in the city this week, and notably this was triggered by a public complaint rather than a routine visit. Inspectors found food contact surfaces and utensils not being cleaned and sanitized between uses, food in storage not protected from contamination, food handlers not washing their hands as required, and hand-washing stations not accessible to staff. None of these were corrected during the inspection — written orders were issued for all four, and a follow-up is required.

🔴 Country Bakery & Market (Lansdowne Place Mall) — 645 Lansdowne St W, Peterborough South

Routine inspection, June 15 · 2 critical infractions Inspectors found that food contact surfaces and utensils were not being cleaned and sanitized after use. Peterborough food inspection critical infractions — June 8–14, 2026

Peterborough Public Health inspected 33 food premises this week. Five locations in the city received critical infractions — meaning an inspector found something that poses a direct risk to your health.

Here's what was found.

What you're reading

Inspectors visit restaurants on a routine schedule or in response to a complaint. When something is wrong, it gets written up as a critical infraction (serious — think contaminated food, unsanitary surfaces, no place to wash hands) or a non-critical one (not covered here).

The write-up also notes whether it was fixed:

  • Corrected on the spot — the owner fixed it before the inspector left. Still on the record.
  • Not in compliance — wasn't fixed. A written order was issued and a follow-up visit is coming.

🔴 Hockey Sushi — 1840 Lansdowne St W

Routine inspection, June 8 · 3 critical infractions

This was the worst result in the city this week. Inspectors found cutting boards and food prep surfaces that weren't being cleaned and sanitized between uses, food in storage that wasn't protected from contamination, and hand-washing stations that were inadequate. The surfaces issue remained unresolved at the end of the inspection. The other two were fixed on the spot.

🔴 Saigon Boys — 1524 Lansdowne St W

Routine inspection, June 8 · 2 critical infractions

Food in storage was found not protected from contamination — and unlike most of the entries this week, that issue was not fixed during the visit, meaning a follow-up inspection is required. Hand-washing stations were also flagged and corrected on the spot.

🔴 Matsu Sushi (East City) — 107 Hunter St E

Routine inspection, June 8 · 1 critical infraction

Food was found not properly protected from contamination or adulteration. The issue was corrected before the inspector left. A follow-up visit on June 9 found nothing further.

🔴 YES Shelter for Youth and Families — 196 Brock St

Routine inspection, June 10 · 1 critical infraction

The inspector determined that food on the premises was not safe to eat. The issue was corrected during the inspection.

🔴 Hunt Terraces – Maple Ridge — 555 Bonnacord St

Routine inspection, June 10 · 1 critical infraction

Hand-washing stations were found to be inadequate. Corrected on the spot.
