Bachelor’s vs Master’s in NL?
Hey broskiis,
I’m a non-EU student, English-speaking only, planning to do my Bachelor’s in Econometrics and Data Science at the University of Amsterdam.
I have a few questions about employment in the Netherlands after graduation:
1. Bachelor’s vs Master’s for employment
If I want to get a job and stay in the Netherlands after my studies as a non-EU graduate, is a Bachelor’s in Econometrics and Data Science enough to get hired and obtain visa sponsorship? Or do Dutch employers almost always expect a Master’s in this field?
Basically, is it realistic to stop after the Bachelor’s and work, or is a Master’s practically necessary to be competitive in the Dutch job market?
2. Working while doing a Master’s
If a Master’s is recommended/necessary, how realistic is it to get a proper career-related job while studying for the Master’s? I’m not talking about Starbucks, retail, hospitality, etc. — I mean something relevant to the degree, such as a working-student/part-time role in data analytics, finance, risk, econometrics, consulting, quantitative analysis, etc.
I’d really appreciate hearing from Dutch graduates, international students, or people currently working in econometrics/data/finance in the Netherlands, especially non-EU graduates who had to deal with the visa/sponsorship side.
Thanks!
