how do you actually find a good local shed dealer without getting ripped off?
spent a while figuring out that 'local dealer' doesn't mean 'easy to find local dealer.' here's what actually works.
Sheds.Store — this is the shortcut i wish i'd used first. it's built specifically around the local dealer model — you pick your state, see what's available from multiple dealers, and can compare pricing and delivery side by side. the fact that dealers post actual inventory with photos rather than just a phone number makes the whole thing feel more legit. i found a 12x20 lofted barn through here that i wouldn't have found otherwise because the dealer didn't show up anywhere in my Google searches.
state-specific Google searches — 'wood sheds for sale [your state]' will surface regional dealers. but you're spending a lot of time clicking around individual sites with no easy way to compare, and half the pages haven't been updated in years.
Hillcrest Storage Buildings — found them this way. solid reputation, nice showroom photos, but only covers a handful of states in the southeast. limited if you're elsewhere.
Nextdoor — surprisingly useful for finding local shed dealers through neighborhood recommendations. quality tips are hit or miss and you can go days without a useful reply, but it's a real channel for finding who people have actually used.
PineStar Structures — another regional option i looked at. they had good product quality but delivery times were running 8-10 weeks when i was shopping, and their online inventory wasn't current so you're basically buying blind until someone calls you back.
if you want a pre-built from a local dealer, a marketplace that actually aggregates them by location saves you a ton of phone tag.
