Anyone here dating a software engineer or are you a software engineer yourself?
Hi! I’m a nurse, and I’ve been dating a software engineer at a big tech company for about two months.
His job is incredibly busy. Sometimes we go on dates after he gets off work during the week, and when I have weekends off, we usually spend the whole weekend together. It’s wonderful when we’re together in person. He’s very caring and sweet, and I always feel happy when we’re together.
The hard part is during the weekdays. Sometimes we barely talk because he’s so focused on work. I know he’s busy, but it’s hard for me to understand just how busy his job can be. I work in a hospital, and even though nursing is busy too, I usually have some downtime during my shifts. I also only work three days a week, so I have much more free time than he does.
Sometimes I wish we could have more conversations throughout the day, but I also want to be understanding if this is just the reality of his career.
For those of you who are software engineers or are dating one, is this normal? How busy are you during the workday? Is it common to be so focused that you barely have time to text?
I’d also love to know if there’s anything about this career that I should understand better.
